description
Homestays in Sindhudurg are the best option for people who are seeking experiential holidays. In our homes, you are unlikely to absorb a similar cultural and natural heritage of the place and its people, elsewhere in the world.

We have created a network of homestays in Sindhudurg, which have specially designated rooms and bath facilities. Each of our rooms is unique and blends in aesthetically with the cultural ethos of the rural surroundings. Its character lies in the fact that nothing is homogenized in style or design in our network of rooms. Yet you will feel absolutely "at home" as all the rooms are comfortable, well appointed and have the hygiene and sanitation facilities suitable for international tourists as well as for the urban Indian visitor.

Your stay with an Indian family will be a veritable exciting cultural experience. The cultural journey will be equally enthralling for the host family as it's going to be you. At home, you will get to observe and partake of the various daily happenings of a traditional Indian household.

The homestays sleep 4 persons comfortably and a group of 6 with extra bed facilities.
rooms, food and facilities
We have three homestay options:

Homestay accommodation in SindhudurgPitruchaya: Pitruchaya, which in Sanskrit denotes Father's blessings, is the home of Vaishali and Vijay Loke. The residence is an ideal and silent retreat with 2 rooms within the family home. This setting is a perfect haven for those who wish to lay back and read or write in tranquility or for those who long for some 'alone time' for creative meditation and inspiration. The home is open on the east and west front, so watching sunrise from the terrace is a truly uplifting start to the day ahead.

Facilities: The room on the terrace is luxurious and airy with a view of the meadows and mango orchards on all sides.

The bathroom on the terrace will certainly bring a gleeful smile to your face, so be prepared for a soak-in for hours and relax with nothing but peace and solitude for company. There is also a room on the ground level alongside the other family rooms which leads into a quaint indoor sky lit quadrangle. This room offers cozy warmth with the shade of a full grown papaya tree right outside your window from where you can also admire the spectacular red-orange hues of the setting sun. There is a bathroom attached to this bedroom as well.

Day excursions:
There are several options for day excursions from this residence. A visit to Vijaydurg fort, the ancient Rameshwar Temple, Kunkeshwar temple on the beach, a trek to Padagar waterfalls (highly recommended for the adventurous), long hours at the Mithbhav beach with packed hampers from Vaishali's kitchen, a visit to Devgad especially to witness the fish auction of the early morning catch, strolls along mango orchards with ample opportunity to cycle around and explore smaller hamlets and villages such as Shirgaon, are just some of the choices you can avail of when you are at this home.

Sindhudurg homestay, bedroomSreeyog Paryatan: Sreeyog Paryatan is truly (as the name suggests!) blessed by Lord Ganesha for all its' visitors and guests, as it is infused with the senior citizen couple Shubhada and Shashikant Kadam's enthusiasm, warmth and hospitality right from the entrance. Nestled at the end of a pathway amongst fields and grasslands all around, and hills on the one side, tranquility descends upon you when you sit on the terrace.

Facilities: A room with large windows framing a splendid vista where you can usher in daybreak right from your bed and a terrace sit out where you get the feeling of being amongst the tree branches by day and under the clear moonlit skies at night.

This room has a very earthy feel to it, which renders a charming rustic undertone during your time spent there. It is self contained with an attached bathroom and dressing room. An additional room below has a very airy and cheerful feel to it. This room is ideal for the elderly, who would be just a shout away from Kadams' own home and for children who can run into the open courtyard and fields within the property without much of a care! This room is also equipped with an attached bathroom.

Day excursions: There are several options for day excursions from this residence. A visit to Sindhudurg fort at Malvan, visits to the neighboring village temples, a visit to Pinguli Art village, a morning walk into the Padve village, a visit to the serene Dhamapur Lake, boating in the backwaters of Nerur par, a visit to Sawantwadi or a drive and a day out on the beaches at Tarkarli, or further down towards Vengurla, self discover treks and trails through the fields and the surrounding mountains around the home are just some of the choices you can avail of when you are at this home.

Nandan Farms: A silent retreat, the home has a calming effect on one's being. It is a perfect place to unwind and go on an inward journey. Set amidst a lush agricultural farm, the home is situated away from the main Sawantwadi town's hustle and bustle. As the name 'Nandan' suggests, a paradise, indeed. Amruta, fondly called Ammu by her family and friends, is passionate about plants which led her to complete her graduation in agricultural studies. Nandan farms reflects the Padgaonkar couple's passion. The Padgaonkar's are young, ever smiling, loving couple full of positive energy and enjoy entertaining guests at their home.

Facilities: An old 'Shet Ghar' - Farm House, complete with mud walls, and terracotta tiled roof, has been conserved to suit modern requirements while retaining the old world charm. The home consists of one spacious bedroom with an attached quaint verandah. The toilet/bathroom area is very tastefully decorated complete with hot and cold water facilities. The kitchen rests beautifully a little separate from the main home. The lawns provide the guests with an opportunity to have their meals in the natural ambience.

Day excursions:
Sawantwadi is a historical town. The town itself provides lot of sight seeing opportunities like visiting the palace, lake and walk in the market. For nature lovers, Amboli jungles (1 hr) is an ideal place to explore. For those interested in art and craft, can visit Pinguli, tribal art village, and watch the theatrical performance of Chitragathi and shadow puppetry.

Family & Pet friendly accommodation: All our home stays are family oriented as you are staying with an India family. We would love to have families visiting our families and interacting with each other. Our home stays are definitely baby friendly. how this holiday makes a difference
Sindhudurg marketOur vision is to achieve sustainable development of the villages through culture tourism. Our aim is to bring foreign tourists to Sindhudurg and introduce them to the local culture by making them stay with the Indian family, experiencing every aspect of the Indian way of life. By staying with the families, the guests will get a first hand experience of interacting with the local community and also a close look at the functioning of the Indian household.

We are also attempting to revive the dying the art and craft of this region. We have created a small Art gallery wherein all the art forms are showcased. The art gallery has today become a source of income.

We've also organised a training workshop for skill development and product development for the entire community. As our project involves the local families , we are well aware of the cultural sensitivities. We have thus formulated a set of dos and don’ts when staying with the families. These set of rules are put up in the room as also the traveller is introduced to the same while they are registering on arrival.

All the home stays are constructed by using the natural materials such as Laterite, Mud, Timber and Bamboo. As also Sindhudurg being a coastal area, it is abundant in coconut trees & sea shells, our designer makes use of these materials to design various interior products. Our families are trained to use various waste management methods for example creating organic manure and to grow vegetables. The families are encouraged to develop a vegetable patch in their backyard and revive the traditional methods of cooking by making use of natural ingredients. Drain water outlets are directed to the plants and trees surrounding the homes. The flush tanks in the restrooms operate at half turns for low consumption flushes. None of our homes use Air conditioning, since it is not required due to proper air management design in the rooms besides laterite and mud walls which keep the rooms cool during summer and warm during winter. We also have low consumption fire wood water boilers. We use Terracotta coolers which is an alternative for Refrigerators. We have set up small Vermiculture – (Earthworm culture) units for organic composts to nurture the vegetable patch in all homes. We are also exploring the use of Bio Gas for cooking.

The main aim of creating the home stays is to promote tourism which will benefit the local community. It is said that 1 rupee spent for tourism goes down 9 levels. We strongly believe that creation of home stays will in the long run bring about village development in a sustainable way. Our future programmes will include training the local youth in tour escorting and guiding.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've lead the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
