description
The hotel has a central London address, but that's where our similarity with other city centre hotels ends. We're stylish and contemporary as well as central and convenient. We also have an intimate feeling despite being large enough to offer everything you'd expect from a luxury hotel. So whether you're in London on business or simply here to enjoy yourself, you'll feel immediately at home at the hotel.
The hotel is on the doorstep of Tower Bridge. We're very near the centre of the financial and business district. Our neighbours include the Tower of London and St Paul's Cathedral. And we're not much further from the bustle and boutiques of the West End.

DVD library how to find us
By air: London City Airport is the closest airport to the hotel. The airport is just six miles from us. Take the Docklands Light Railway and the London Underground via Canning Town and you should be here within half an hour. Hail a taxi and your journey may take longer because of London traffic. Luton and Stansted serve European and domestic flights, while planes land at Heathrow and Gatwick from almost everywhere in the world. All four are no more than 45 minutes by train from central London.
By rail: Tower Hill and Aldgate are the closest London Underground stations to the hotel. Get out at either one of these stops and we're only a short walk away. Fenchurch Street Station is the nearest mainline station to us. Once again, it is only a few minutes by foot to our door.

how this holiday makes a difference

The hotel is conscious that the actions of each and every one of us have an impact on the environment. This is the philosophy that everyone at the hotel works with, each and every day, to ensure we're doing our bit to build a sustainable future. We have a dedicated architect in charge of Sustainable Hotel Design to take advantage of environmental opportunities in our developments: The design of our Hotels is eco-friendly. The hotel is located in the city centre rather than using greenfield space. This also minimises wastage of energy and resources. Keycard systems control lighting, heating and air coolers when room not in use. Building management systems are in place to control temperatures throughout the building and existing lifts have been replaced with energy efficient lifts. Energy saving lighting, dimmers and motion detectors are in place.
We have dual flush toilets to save water. We have energy efficient windows to improve thermal performance resulting in less of a requirement for heating in winter and air conditioning in summer. We have separate walk in showers to encourage guests to use the shower instead of the bath resulting in water saving. We re-use furniture and fittings after our refurbishments by donating to them local charities and businesses. We recycle paper, plastic, card board, glass, CDs, polythene wrappers, mobile phones, polystyrene, waste cooking oil, toner cartridges and dry cleaning coat hangers. We re-use towels on guest request. We provide newspapers on request to avoid wastage and recycle any spares. Daily monitoring of water/gas/electricity consumption occurs to aid reducing consumption levels. We donate soap bars to charity. We compact waste so less collections required. We encourage car share and encourage cycle to work and have provided cycle rack facilities plus cycling discounts. We co-ordinate in advance staff taxi journeys and pick ups to minimise number of taxi journeys. We encourage local transport and provide information on their facilities. We purchase recycled goods and provide environmental awareness and training as part of the induction programme. We have a dedicated environmental group driving forward new initiatives. We use conference call phones between properties to minimise travel and our sales team promote our Green Tourism Business Scheme award and policy to clients. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
