description
Built by the owner Michaelis as a family home, this villa exudes a friendly charm.
It is a charm heightened by the warm welcome all guests receive from Michaelis and his wife Elsi, often exemplified in the home-made cakes and hand-picked fruits which greet new arrivals.
The fruits are picked from the orchard of pears, plums, figs, oranges, apricots and apples, which virtually encircles the house. But the appeal of the villa also lies beyond its boundaries – it is just 150 metres from the inviting sandy beach of Kyani Akti, backed by a convenient taverna and snack bar.
And a short drive away is the seaside town of Kalyves, with its excellent tavernas and another fine beach. The villa is also overlooked by the ancient ruins of Aptera, one of the island’s most important ancient sites, and well worth a visit for the more energetic.

how this holiday makes a difference
|
The owner of this villa who is local to the area grows his own fruit in the gardens and produces many local dishes and often brings home made cakes for guests. Hot water is solar heated in order to reduce the environmental impact of the property and reduce energy consumption. We provide an information pack which details local restaurants and places of interest and our country representative promotes many of the local mini-markets, tavernas and businesses to ensure that local people benefit from tourism revenues. Glass and paper collected by us for recycling as there is no local collection service. Solar panels used to heat up the water in the villa and organic fruit is provided by owners for guests on arrival.
As a company we aim to encourage local economic growth and to work in harmony with local communities and to respect their culture, traditions and environments. All of our owners (bar one) and suppliers used are local. We prefer to employ the services of independent local business as suppliers in each of their destinations. We work with local car hire firms for all our car rentals, boat hire firms for boat rental and we utilize the services of local village shops and mini markets to compile our welcome hampers. We also encourage our guests to use the services of local restaurants and shops, archeological sites/excursions - always booking through locals rather than large multi national companies. In addition to this we encourage our guests to visit local attractions and beaches within the area they are staying, as opposed to suggesting they go further afield. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've lead the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
