description
This is a breathtakingly beautiful setting in the Cephalonian countryside with the occasional farmhouse amongst pine trees and rocky outcrops.
The cottages have been perfectly designed to sit within this natural landscape, as has the elegant curved swimming pool. The only sounds here are the crickets, the occasional hawk and the afternoon breezes catching the leaves of the olive trees.
Guests may eat at the accommodation and there are various other tavernas in nearby villages with the more sophisticated restaurants and cafés of Fiskardo just over six kilometres away.
The highpoint at the acccommodation is undoubtedly dinner. Yiannis does all his cooking in two clay ovens and this simple method produces an astonishing range of traditional dishes from organic ingredients: cheese pie, pasta, tender lamb chops, and baked tomatoes and aubergine all emerge from the same oven. Stella bakes arguably the best bread on Cephalonia, and their sons run the bar and taverna. Nikos, one of the sons, will take delight in telling you stories and showing photos from the parts he played in ‘Captain Corelli’s Mandolin’.
Each Cottage features an open-plan kitchenette/living/dining area with 2 ring hob, fridge freezer, TV (Greek channels only) and door leading out to terrace with sea and pool views. Double bedroom with air-conditioning and door leading to terrace with pool and sea views. Shower room with hairdryer.
Swimming pool approx. 9m x 5m (depth 0.9m-1.8m) with terrace and decked area and outstanding sea views. Fridge near pool to store drinks. Shared landscaped gardens with shaded seating areas.
Please note: Based on return flights from the UK - supplements / reductions may be applicable depending on flight & class availability at time of booking.

travellers' tales
The pool area with stunning views over the coast with a lovely refreshing breeze and hiring a motor boat and spending the day snorkelling and swimming in secluded little coves along the coast line were the most memorable parts.

Walking accommodation: This is a breathtakingly beautiful setting in the Cephalonian countryside with the occasional farmhouse amongst pine trees and rocky outcrops. From Aloni the wild terrain slopes steeply to the sea. There is some wonderful hill walking and cycling in this region, however one would need a reasonable degree of fitness.

how this holiday makes a difference
Yiannis, the owner, does all his cooking in two clay ovens and this simple method produces an astonishing range of traditional dishes from organic locally grown ingredients. This is a family run business and cottages built by the family using local building materials and some materials from old buildings. The furniture in the taverna was produced by local craftsmen using traditional techniques. The taverna at uses all local produce, much of it from the owners own gardens. Cooking is done in a traditional way in the outdoor oven. The information pack at the cottages and our country representative promote many of the local mini-markets, tavernas and businesses to ensure that local people receive maximum economic benefit from tourist income. Company policy: As a company we aim to encourage local economic growth and to work in harmony with local communities and to respect their culture, traditions and environments. All of our owners (bar one) and suppliers used are local. We prefer to employ the services of independent local business as suppliers in each of their destinations. We work with local car hire firms for all our car rentals, boat hire firms for boat rental and we utilize the services of local village shops and mini markets to compile our welcome hampers. We also encourage our guests to use the services of local restaurants and shops, archeological sites/excursions - always booking through locals rather than large multi national companies. In addition to this we encourage our guests to visit local attractions and beaches within the area they are staying, as opposed to suggesting they go further afield. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
