description
The accommodation is an oasis of calm in one of the most beautiful and untouched parts of France. Set in the lush Cévennes mountains of the Languedoc region, it is a place of stunning simplicity and incredible natural beauty where guests can truly relax without the distractions of TV, crowds or traffic. Secluded yet within easy access to pretty villages, it offers the perfect opportunity to tune into nature and to ourselves.

We offer themed holidays – yoga, Ayurveda, creative writing… – as well as gite holiday rentals and two yurts for hire. Served with delicious, organic vegetarian food. Surrounded by glorious pine and holm oak forests, we are located on a picturesque hamlet in 45 acres set in the Mediterranean mountains, 1.5 from Nimes and 2 hours from Montpellier.
special things to do and see here
We offer a variety of therapies on site, massage (Swedish or Ayurvedic), Ayurvedic consultations, cooking lessons, craniosacral therapy, yoga therapy and dance sessions sometimes on offer in the summer.

For the more energetic, the local area offers a wide variety of well marked hiking trails, river bathing, mountain biking, donkey rental(great for families!), tennis, a local Sunday market... or simply explore the hills behind the hamlet or relax in our peaceful gardens & grounds.

Walking: Plenty of hiking trails around and close to the property (walking guide available).
Cycling: Mountain bike hire available in a local village.
travellers' tales
The surroundings were just stunning, it was the perfect place to escape! (more)
rooms, food and facilities
Our nine guest bedrooms (two and three-person rooms and a four-person dorm) including two holiday gîtes can take up to 22 guests at any one time. Our two yurts can take four additional guests. Facilities include a teaching hall and extensive grounds. WIFI internet connection available. River bathing possible just minutes from the property.

Family friendly: Our two gîtes (holiday rental apartments) are suitable for families. We have swings and a slide in the garden, and a river running through the foot of the property for paddling (swimming possible a little further downstream). We have stairgates and a cot available. We also have two donkeys for kiddie rides by informal arrangement.

how to find us
We are about 1 hr 30 mins from Nîmes and 1 hr 45 mins from Montpellier airports (Ryanair and BA), and 2 hrs 30 mins from Avignon (closest TGV train stop for the south of France).

By air: The fastest, simplest option is to fly to Nimes from Stansted or Luton (just outside London), or Liverpool, then get a shared taxi. You can also get to us from the airports by public transport.
By rail: Eurostar run a service from London or Paris to Avignon or Nîmes; you can then get a train or bus to St Jean du Gard or Anduze. We can help to organise taxi shares and are happy to collect you from the village of St Andre de Valborgne and bring you to the accommodation.
how this holiday makes a difference
We are committed to raising respect for the environment in our guests. We compost everything we can, recycle most of the rest, and buy locally farmed produce when at all possible. We have two compost toilets on site and are planning a straw-bale insulated yoga hall in the near future. The meals we provide for guests are largely organic and home-cooked with love. We encourage simplicity and creativity over electronic gadgetry and mindless passivity.

All regular staff who do not live on-site come in from the local village (cleaner, gardener, occasional extra cooks). On courses which are so heavily subscribed that we cannot accommodate everyone on site, guests take rooms in the local hotels and gîtes. As many of our cooking ingredients as possible are bought locally. In summer, we offer yoga and dance classes which are extended to local people.

We have wood burning stoves in both our gîtes, fuelled with wood cut from our own land. We educate our guests to be responsible with their use of electricity and water. All kitchen waste is either fed to our chickens or composted. We use eggs from our own organically-fed hens and as many organic ingredients as possible in guests’ meals. We recycle glass, tins, plastics, paper, cardboard etc. We have used natural lime render and local wood in our renovations and have solar lamps in our grounds. Our two yurts have compost toilets. We plan to build a straw-bale insulated yoga hall in the near future.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
