how this holiday makes a difference
The resort is a husband and wife owned property, run with the support of the village people. All staff employed are from the area and are responsible for cooking, cleaning, serving, keeping the garden & pathways, and taking guests on village walks. The main income for them is what they earn from this property and the tips that they get. We are a very small organisation with very little paper work and our main marketing tools are internet, telephone, word of mouth, guide books and magazines.

Vegetables, tank fish, fruits and curd are all purchased from the village. Donations are offered for the development of the village (e.g. culvets in the gravel roads) and the temples. To ensure village life is not disturbed, guests are encouraged to remain aware of local traditions, such as what to wear when bathing, and we provide sarongs for men and women.

75% energy saving bulbs are used, and a minimal usage of electricity is encouraged to protect the rich bird life in the garden. Feeding trays are set in the garden with water for the birds. Organic vegetables grown in the garden, with organic waste separated and composted for our plants. No sprays are used for mosquitoes, just candles with oils. Guests are asked to only change linen when really needed and are encouraged to visit the near by yoga centres and Ayurveda centres.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
