how this holiday makes a difference
Centre of Quito Independence Square, luxury hotel We offer typical local food in our restaurant and have all the information of the city’s attractions, restaurants and local markets. We encourage our guest to use public buses and taxis. Our staff is 100% local and in constant training. We buy 100% local produce in local markets. All of our services are local.

We work with our community. We have 2 foundations to which we donate money, material and clothing that we don’t use, from the hotel and also from guests that want to.

We are members of 2 committees which work in preserving the historic part of the city, its security, its cleanliness, and its development as a tourist attraction. Every 6 months when we renovate our linens we donate the remains to a foundation that takes care of women with HIV.

We are a small historic boutique hotel located in the heart of Quito’s colonial centre we opened our doors almost 4 years ago but it took us more than 3 years to restore and renovate this historic building, since we tried to maintain at its most the original assembly and essence of the house. The site of our hotel is located is one of the original sites that existed since the foundation of the city over 400 years ago. Now we have a beautiful hotel that accomplishes all the international standards in accommodation, security and the most important good environmental practices.

Some of the things we are doing which helped us get certified by Rainforest Alliance and Smart Voyager as part of their good environmental practices program are:
  • Preserve water. We have saving devices in all our showers, sinks and toilets and we daily monitor consumption to be aware of the preservation process. In all of our personal areas we have messages to encourage our saving programs
  • Preserve energy. In the back of the house we have energy saving light bulbs, we have messages in all the rooms asking the guests to turn of lights and help us preserve energy and we daily monitor consumption
  • Reduce waste. We manage recycling programs for all of our wastes in conjunction with local companies that work in this area. We use big containers instead of small
  • Increase recycling. We recycle most of our waste and work with specialized companies, we recycle our amenities containers, we encourage our guests to separate their wastes in separate waste baskets that we provide in each room
  • Improve not only our immediate surroundings, but further inside our community. We have one person that is in charge of cleaning our whole square and all of the hotels surroundings and we help with the decoration of our block.
  • Additional environmental management to help reduce impact on our environment. We use special tablets in our drains to clean wasted water. We have grease traps. Most of the cleaning products we use are bio degradable and we encourage our suppliers to work with environmentally safe products. We use only biodegradable soaps, we don’t use bleach and neither does our external laundry service.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've lead the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
