description
Hidden between the road to Fiskardo and the coast is the hamlet of Tzamarelata. It is a wonderfully rural, peaceful spot, overlooking the sea. At the far end of Tzamarelata is Ranzo Ionio.

We are offering the front two attached cottages here, which occupy a superb position. Situated a short distance from the other properties, dramatically sited on a bluff overlooking the Ionian, they have the most stunning view west over the sea ensuring spectacular sunsets. Each cottage has its own small private swimming pool, increasing the sense of privacy.

The small stone cottages and apartments of this delightful spot are set in gardens surrounding a large swimming pool. The inspiration and charm of Ranzo Ionio is entirely down to the owners who have imbued it with their own friendly and caring ethos. The highpoint at Ranzo Ionio is undoubtedly dinner. Yiannis does all his cooking in two clay ovens and this simple method produces an astonishing range of traditional dishes from organic ingredients: cheese pie, pasta, tender lamb chops, and baked tomatoes and aubergine all emerge from the same oven. Stella bakes arguably the best bread on Cephalonia, and their sons run the bar and taverna. Nikos, one of the sons, will take delight in telling you stories and showing photos from the parts he played in ‘Captain Corelli’s Mandolin’.

Please note: Based on return flights from the UK - supplements / reductions may be applicable depending on flight & class availability at time of booking.

how this holiday makes a difference
Villa holiday in Cephalonia, sunsetThis is a family run business and the cottages have all been built by the family using local building materials and traditional techniques to ensure that they are in keeping with the local environment. The furniture in the taverna was produced by local craftsmen using traditional techniques. The taverna uses all local produce, much of it from the owners own gardens.

Yiannis, the owner, does all his cooking in two clay ovens and this simple method produces an astonishing range of traditional dishes from organic locally grown ingredients:
Cooking done in a traditional way in the outdoor oven. The information pack and our local representative promote many of the local mini-markets, tavernas and businesses to ensure that local people gain maximum economic benefit from tourist revenues.

View, Self catering cottage CephaloniaAs a company we aim to encourage local economic growth and to work in harmony with local communities and to respect their culture, traditions and environments. All of our owners (bar one) and suppliers used are local. We prefer to employ the services of independent local business as suppliers in each of their destinations. We work with local car hire firms for all our car rentals, boat hire firms for boat rental and we utilize the services of local village shops and mini markets to compile our welcome hampers.

We also encourage our guests to use the services of local restaurants and shops, archeological sites/excursions - always booking through locals rather than large multi national companies. In addition to this we encourage our guests to visit local attractions and beaches within the area they are staying, as opposed to suggesting they go further afield.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
