Elba, a beautiful island with much of the charm of "Chianti" transported to a seaside setting! Only a short distance from Elba Island's main town of Portoferraio, in the National Park, the accommodation is a 3 star Eco-Hotel, renowned for its quiet, panoramic location and spectacular sunsets.

Built surrounded by terraces of trees and flowers facing the sea, the accommodation boasts a lovely swimming pool, a tennis court overlooking the bay, rooms with all modern comforts plus a cuisine rich in fish and local produce.

Direct, private access to it's small sand and pebble beach with 8000 sq metres of sea facing land, inside the National Park. It enjoys a quiet, panoramic position overlooking the splendid bay - ideal for a relaxing holiday in beautiful surroundings.

Built and owned since 1960 by the same family, each year tastefully and lovingly restored, the new generation continues to run the hotel with the same professional courtesy assuring their guests a sense of wellbeing in a tranquil and informal ambience.

special things to do and see here
A crystal clear sea only 10 mins by car from Portoferraio - the island's capital city, 11.000 inhabitants - its old town centre a popular place for shopping and perusing the old churches, Napoleon's museum, art/ picture galleries, the Linguella museum and lots of other interesting things, only waiting to be discovered. In high season the streets become animated with music and markets. The area is popular with bird watchers and nature lovers. We organise boat trips to the island of Giglio and the nearby marine protected Pianosa (usually with only limited public access). Our trained staff help guests organise numerous excursions around the island using the local bus service.

how to find us
The nearest airports are Pisa, Florence and Rome. Car ferries operate from Piombino-Portoferraio (1 hour). Finding the accommodation is very easy. On disembarking, follow signs "all directions", for approximately 500 metres until you come to a roundabout, turn right for Viticcio-Enfola. Continue along the "green coast" for about 3 km, you arrive at a small crossroad - turn left towards Viticcio and you will find the accommodation after 100 metres on your left-hand side.
how this holiday makes a difference
Although Elba is only at the beginning of becoming an adequate ‘ecological’ island we are all making the best possible efforts to ensure it soon catch up with the rest of Europe.

We are a medium sized family business, our hotel employs 95% Elban staff, including young people after their studies in Pisa or Florence who often return to work the summer season, as waiters or barmen, therefore communicating their respect for their lovely island to tourists eager to learn about the island’s past.

Our profits help to support local non-profit associations, festivals and church communities. We endeavour to re-cycle as much as our local authorities permit and accept, and used batteries can be left in a container near the bar. We use long-life energy efficient bulbs where possible, and guests who ensure lights, ceiling fans, air conditioning etc, are turned off before leaving the room become our favourite ‘Eco-tourists’! For room cleaning we use Eco cleaning products, the dish washers also use Eco cleaning liquid products. If we use our laundry, (for kitchen cloths etc.) this also uses Eco washing powder.

There is a local organisation 'Gli Amici dell'Enfola' my husband was the President of until 2 years ago. They ensure Cape Enfola (national park protected area) is kept clean and are responsible for the toilets and parking area plus several sporting events, kayaks, fishing competitions. We provide the food for the buffets and contribute at least 1000 Euro annually to help them keep things working. We keep boxes fin the reception, well in sight and clients are aware of this.

Food is carefully selected by the owner who buys only the best, giving precedence to local produce. We have local honey on the breakfast buffet and a good selection of Elban wines on the wine list. Used oil from the kitchens is kept in containers collected by a local contractor. Kitchen scraps help to feed local domestic rabbits and chickens.

We have our own well-water serving most of the hotel. To help reduce water consumption we have only showers in our bathrooms, thus conserving our water supply and toilets have a water saving flush system. Gardens are watered with recycled water. We ask our guests to assist us by consuming water conscientiously. Towels are changed daily but guests are asked to place the unused ones separately, thus, once again, helping us to economise on water and detergents.

Basically our aim is to continue to promote Eco tourism and to maintain our national park and marine protected area as much and for as long as possible. The Elban community appreciate and are proud of their lovely island and intend to preserve it!

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
