description
Located just a stone’s throw from one of the most stunning stretches of Ionian coastline of the Salento region, the accommodation in Marina di Pulsano is a place that exudes old-fashioned charm. One can reach the natural, public beach and the Ionian Sea in just a few minutes by bicycle. Guests may also use the bathing establishment facilities and the attended parking lots, located along the Ionian beach.
Little remains of the old fold, used over the centuries to provide a temporary haven for herds of sheep and goats, only the portion enclosing the farm’s pine grove. Just a few hundred meters from the wild sand dunes of the Salento coastline, there’s a 17th-century farming village, the Masseria Porvica, right in the centre. Having chosen a different path from that of mass tourism, the estate kindles an authentic atmosphere of hospitality, tangible above all in the pleasure of sharing with guests the best of everyday life.

By reservation only, the accommodation offers lodging and dining in seven residences that open onto the courtyard of the farm-house; in the old days they were used for storing grain or as stalls for the oxen. Restored in authentic Mediterranean style, these residences feature traditional vaulted ceilings made of Carparino slate and simple, rustic furnishings. They have one or two rooms and all come with a cooking nook and private bath facilities with accommodations for the handicapped. In older times the residences were used to store cereals and as stables for oxen, from which they fondly take their names. Carefully renovated with the utmost respect paid to the Mediterranean tradition, the residences are characterised by sober, stylish design.
The accommodation also has a fully equipped conference room for business meetings and receptions etc. Masseria Porvica, the farmhouse located in the heart of the accommodation, is a particularly interesting and prestigious location for all sorts of business events. It boasts two large rooms fully equipped for conferences and functions. The accommodation also features five pine-built cottages nestling in a cool pine grove.
Family & baby friendly: We have an internal game park for kids and a baby sitting service can be arranged; but the best attraction remains the white sand of our “caribbean type” sea!
Disabled access: One of the residences off the historical courtyard is equipped for handicapped persons.
Pet friendly: We welcome pets in the guest residence or room.

The estate is an initiative which aims at transforming the natural beauty of the local lucky environment that surrounds us in an economic activity able to add value to it. Our guests have the opportunity to experience our passion of the traditional sense of hospitality together with the show of wild dunes and sandy shores that they would never expect. The best of our organic farming activities is offered in our restaurant enriched by our master chef.
The accommodation is an historical farm and the family who run the business are deeply tied to the community through an intense economic activity which dates back the 19th century. We organise a yearly event (last year it was a classic music concert with a German group of over 30 musicians) in order to raise funds for the purchase of equipment. We do inform those guests who are in the hotel during the event asking them to pitch in. From the very beginning we aimed at saving energy by purchasing five 300 litre solar panels which guarantee 1500 litre of hot water for guests and restaurant clients thanks to at least 10 out 12 months guaranteed sun exposure. Half flush toilet contribute to saving water which is drilled from the property wells. We deliver our waste to a differentiated recovery waste eco-area (glass, tins, umid waste and paper). Our vineyards are cultivated following the procedures of organic agricultural practises and our garden is often visited by wild foxes and our bird boxes host migrating birds. We produce D.O.C. wines and extra virgin olive oil. Behind the shores lies a system of wild sand dunes which belongs to the property and which has been preserved by our family from all the attempts of speculative urbanization. A close relationship with a local social activity group is being signed in order to exploit the dune system for touristic purposes, i.e. guided tours etc. We are located in an area where to visit local natural and historical attractions becomes part of the experience of the vacation; therefore we continuously propose to our guests to follow our itineraries which include hints on suggested restaurants and/ or green shops. All our staff come from the nearby villages; Antonio, responsible of the quality of the stay of our guests has recently joined the team but his integration in our family business is surprising. In our restaurant, what is not of our production is bought locally or provided by our neighbour farm. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
