description
Two attractive villas located on a quiet residential lane in the town of Koycegiz (pronounced ‘kur-y-jeez’) 5 minutes walk from the beautiful lake and just 30 minutes from Dalaman airport.
Spacious verandas overlook the attractive pool and garden and are the perfect place to relax and sip an evening aperitif. You can also chill out on the traditional ‘Kosk’; a raised seating platform with comfortable cushions. The lounge areas have sofas and armchairs to relax on, as well as comfortable Ottoman seating areas where you can laze around on Turkish cushions.
A short stroll from the villas takes you to the beautiful lake and the small town centre. Koycegiz is not a large tourist resort- expect peaceful lakeside cafes, bars and restaurants, real Turkish cuisine, stunning views and the hospitality of the friendly local people and your hosts, Heather and Bulent Hava.
Koycegiz Lake runs via a river delta to the Mediterranean Sea, so beautiful beaches such as Turtle Beach, Iztuzu Beach, Sarigerme Beach and Ekincik Bay are easily accessible. The surrounding countryside is agricultural, producing oranges, lemons, olives, pine honey, sesame and cotton. It is possible to visit local villages to observe or take part in seasonal work, such as preparing olives, making cheese and yoghurt, and drying peppers and aubergines.
Your hosts’ mother, Ayser, lives next door, and she is happy for guests to help themselves to the organic fruit and vegetables in her garden. She sometimes pops across to the villas to give guests a taste of her home-made jams or ‘borek’, or to invite them for tea in her garden.Cruise across the lake on a private boat to view the stunning Lycian Rock tombs, then visit the ancient city of Caunos where you can take in the panoramic views of the river delta and Mediterranean Sea from the top of the amphitheatre. Visit the long stretch of golden sand on the Mediterranean known as ‘Turtle Beach’ – so called because of the protected Loggerhead Turtles that nest there. Bath in the waters of the natural thermal springs, renowned for their therapeutic properties, or rejuvenate your skin in the mineral-rich mud.

special things to do and see here
rooms, food and facilities
One villa has 5 double/twin rooms and the other has 4 double/twin rooms. Each villa has 2 en-suite shower/toilets and one large bathroom with walk-in shower.
The rooms have features such as the original fireplaces and we have replicated the decorative wooden ceilings typical of the region, using local carpenters and materials. The ground floor rooms have the original thick stone walls so they tend to be cool in summer, but air conditioning is available in each bedroom if needed. The kitchens are fully equipped for a self-catering holiday, with fridge/freezer, gas hob, cooking utensils and crockery. The swimming pool (12mx7m) also has a small children’s splash pool, and is surrounded by a wide marble terrace.
Linen and bath towels are provided and changed weekly. We also do a light clean once a week. There is a washing machine, iron & ironing board, wireless internet connection, TV with English channels, DVD and CD players.
If you would like (for a small extra charge) we can deliver fresh bread and pastries to you for breakfast, or serve a delicious Turkish breakfast of local produce on the veranda. Both villas have facilities for inside and outside dining.
Family & baby friendly: With the safety of small children in mind, we have added gates to the verandas to block unsupervised access to the pool. For families with babies travel cots, high chairs and a bottle sterilizer are available on request.

how to find us
Koycegiz is just a 30 minute drive from Dalaman International Airport. We can arrange airport transfers for you, or if you prefer you can take a taxi. Local car hire can be arranged, but is not essential.how this holiday makes a difference
We feel that guests staying with us will come away with an insight into the ‘real’ Turkish way of life; the culture and traditions and perhaps a bit of the language. Your host, Bulent, and his family are all from the town, and can show you the true meaning of Turkish hospitality! The properties are around 100 years old, and have been restored keeping the original walls and features using local labour and materials. In the summer season we employ Bulent’s friendly cousin, Ahmet, to look after the garden and pool. This helps him pay for his university degree course in computer science. He also loves the job as he gets a chance to practice his English! Any work that is carried out on the properties is done by local tradesmen and labourers. Our ‘odd job man’ is Mehmet, a sprightly man in his 60’s who lives in Koycegiz. He also looks after Bulent’s mother’s garden, and in the winters he chops the wood for her stove. Locally produced olives, pine honey, fruit and bread are included in our welcome hamper, and in the breakfast we serve. Bulent’s mother next door has organic grape vines, lemons, plums, apricot and ‘musmula’ fruit trees for guests to help themselves to, and this year we are planting fig and peach trees. We have solar heating systems to provide hot water and energy-saving light bulbs throughout the properties. The original thick walls of brick and stone ensure good insulation and keep the properties cool in summer and this, coupled with our clear instructions to guests on how to use the a/c units, encourages minimal use of the air conditioning. We have showers and low flush toilets to minimise use of water and recycling bins for glass and paper. We can arrange visits to a local mountain village (Agla or Zeytinalani) to experience the timeless way of life. Guests can observe and/or take part in seasonal jobs, such as preparing olives, extracting pomegranate juice, making jam, cheese or yoghurt, preparing and drying chilli peppers and aubergines, preparation of local foods and dishes. This is arranged directly with the villagers concerned, and payment is made directly to them. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've lead the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
