description
A hotel that manages to be stylish and central - but at the same time small enough to make you feel very much at home. Yet it's a hotel big enough to offer everything you'd expect.
The hotel is situated in the business district, a 5 minute walk to Princes Street and surrounded by public transport links including train station 100 metres away. The hotel has 66 en-suite rooms, conference/event facilities, informal but lively brasserie and bar area. The hotel was designed with LED lamps, energy efficient plant room, aerators and flow regulators and dual flush toilets. We have won many awards in support of the environmental actions in the group. City centre accommodation has never been this good.

special things to do and see here
The hotel is in one of our most intimate locations, right in the heart of the West End of Edinburgh city centre. That means it's just minutes from the arts venues of Lothian Road, the roar of Murrayfield and the credit-card-tempting shops of Princes Street and George Street. The hotel is also close to Edinburgh's main business districts.rooms, food and facilities
The hotel has 66 ensuite bedrooms, brasserie & bar and private dining. The hotel has free high speed, wireless, internet access. We think it makes a refreshing change to simply flip open your laptop - without emptying the contents of your wallet just to send a few emails.
Of course, we have all the other facilities you'd expect from a contemporary hotel:24 hour room service Alarm calls Bar and restaurant Car park Concierge services Mail and message delivery Pay movies Private dining Same day laundry Satellite TV Conference centre - There are three rooms in our conference centre, chic and stylish with light reflective black glass table tops and they all come with an impressive range of facilities. Expect TV and video, projector, flipchart, fax and phone, wi-fi internet access, ice-cold drinks fridge, complimentary fresh fruit platter and snacks
Baby friendly: Cots and high chairs are available
Disabled access: Disabled access to rooms and public areas. Guide dog access.
By air: The hotel is the first main city centre hotel you'll see as you drive in from the airport. Just follow the signs for the city - don't make any turns. You'll know you're around ten minutes away when you see signs for Murrayfield Stadium. As you reach the West End of Edinburgh, the hotel is on your left - just before Haymarket Station.
By train: Haymarket Station is just 200 metres from the hotel. Most trains from England and Glasgow stop at Haymarket Station before they pull into Waverley Station. To reach the hotel, simply come out of the main station doors, where you'll find a taxi rank. Turn left - we're just two blocks away. Waverley Station isn't too far from the hotel. However, most of our guests prefer to take the five minute taxi journey instead of walking.
By car: Unlike most hotels in Edinburgh, we have a car park - which makes arriving by car very civilised. However, we hope you understand that we can't guarantee a car parking space. Once you're here, Edinburgh is best enjoyed on foot and by public transport. From locations other than the airport, head for the West End and Haymarket Terrace. Follow the signs for Haymarket Train Station, which is at the main West End junction. The hotel is on the right-hand side, two blocks along from Haymarket Station.

how this holiday makes a difference
|
Our hotel was designed with many environmental initiatives in mind including energy efficient lifts, thermo graphic imaging conducted, high spec glazing, energy efficient plant room, LED lighting, building management system to control temperatures, cycle racks in place, ving keycard switches and master switches controlling lighting/air coolers. We have energy efficient windows to improve thermal performance resulting in less of a requirement for heating in winter and air conditioning in summer. Our rooms have dual flush facilities, flow regulators and aerator taps/showerheads. There is a separate walk in shower to the bath to encourage shower use.
We are conscious that the actions of each and every one of us have an impact on the environment. This is the philosophy that everyone at the hotels works with, each and every day, to ensure we're doing our bit to build a sustainable future. We identify and implement eco-friendly policies through the formation of a Green Team. We provide environmental awareness and training as part of the induction programme with on going environmental and awareness training. We work with our supplier partners to reduce their packaging and transport to our hotels. We endeavour to purchase recycled goods whenever appropriate and we endeavour to use eco-friendly chemicals in the hotel. We have won many awards such as Gold in GTBS, ITM ICARUS Environmental Award, VIBES regional winner, Major Commendation in Business Commitment to the Environment Awards, Highly Commended in National Business Awards for Scotland, The Scottish Hotel Environment Award, Gold in Keep Edinburgh Clean Award, Gold in Visit London Sustainable Tourism Award. We offer Fair trade tea, coffee and hot choc in room. Toiletries are made in Scotland and not tested on animals, toilet rolls and tissues are made from recycled paper. We have a purchasing policy in place, ensuring we purchase locally produced food and goods where possible, eco friendly chemicals, recycled products, fair trade and organic items for breakfast. Our leisure facilities with ozone pool use eco friendly ozone instead of chlorine and chemicals. Daily activities are in place to reduce, reuse and recycle. We recycle paper, plastic, card board, glass, CDs, polythene wrappers, mobile phones, polystyrene, waste cooking oil, toner cartridges and dry cleaning coat hangers. We donate furniture and fittings after our refurbishments to local charities and businesses. We encourage car share and encourage staff to cycle to work and have provided cycle rack facilities plus cycling discounts. We encourage local transport and provide information on their facilities. We use conference call phones between properties to minimise travel and we co-ordinate in advance staff taxi journeys and pick ups to minimise the number of taxi journeys. We provide information on walks, wildlife and parks for our guests. We work with the local community/traders through their associations, encouraging them to be more environmentally aware, conducting jogging/walking tours from hotel, offering cycle hire info and promoting local events/shops to guests. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
