description
The farmhouse is the perfect stay for people travelling for business or exhibition reasons, people who would like to find a suitable accommodation outside the hectic city life. At the same time people travelling for tourism, in search of art or nature, will find our place totally fulfilling their wishes.
Since the beginning we've decided to farm our fields according to the principles of organic agriculture. This allows us to produce healthier fruits and vegetables, and to avoid polluting the environment in which we live, safeguarding its biodiversity.
We cultivate many of the fruit varieties common at our latitude: strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, grapes, apricots, plums, pears, apples, cherries, walnuts, hazelnuts, almonds, chestnuts and several "forgotten" species, such as azaroles, cherry plums, medlars, pomegranates, "sorbi". We also cultivate various types of vegetables and officinal plants. Last, we are breeding some goats.
The farmhouse gives to its guests the friendly welcome of an Italian family that will make you feel "a casa vostra", at your home, hospitality in the quiet of the countryside hills; at the same time being very close to the city of Bologna and all the main highways and train lines crossing Italy. Our highly comfortable rooms are all provided with private bath, free internet ADSL connection, satellite TV and fan. Our natural and excellent organic products are served at breakfast and at the other meals, with the possibility to have vegetarian, vegan or other special meals. And our own wine, of course! We have an extensive knowledge of foreign languages, which enables us to communicate at best with our guests. We can help in organizing your own trip, suggesting artistic highlights, nature sight-seeing, sports to be practised (especially for hikers and bicycle riders).
Walking: An infinity of possible hikes, starting from our forest up to exploring the Apennine mountains
Cycling: The Bologna hill and mountain territory has a real vocation for cycling in all forms. From asphalted roads to mountain-bike, to bicycle tourism, a myriad of roads, mule-tracks and single-path tracks will satisfy all people and all legs. Our cycling guests have the possibility to use the farmhouse garage to leave their bikes indoor, and the availability of various tools for fixing their bikes. Since we are very careful about our environment, and we love bike tourism, we'll give a special 10% discount to all the people who will arrive travelling by bicycle. Moreover, we have an agreement with an Assistance Centre at 3 kms away. According to availability, they can come to fix bikes directly at our place, or it can be reached easily in a few minutes. And if you don’t take your bike with you, we’ll be happy to rent you our beautiful mountain-bikes!

how this holiday makes a difference
|
We are a small farmhouse, and this makes the real difference, since it means everything is in a small scale and is therefore much better controlled, from wastes to energy, from organic food we produce ourselves to using only nearby suppliers, from having to cooperate with other small structures around us (horse riding, food producers, bike repairers, all types of services, …). Our farmhouse is a place to get to know the real Italian family cuisine, to meet new people, and to live not as a tourist, but as a friend. The area is fantastic, offering beautiful art cities and blossoming hills, wild mountains and precious archaeological sites.
Our building has been built following a rigorous energy saving plan. Wall cohibentation, double glass on windows, wooden roof with air exchange, using natural materials (cork, bricks, etc.) Energy is supplied by a combinated system of energy-saving fas heater, water heating solar panels and wood stove. Water-saving system are in all bathrooms, and irrigation water for our agriculture and garden is supplied by three tanks that collect rain coming form the fields. Wasted water treatment is a biological system that through bacteria (no energy involved) purifies the water again before sending it to a small canal ending in the valley river. We recycle glass, paper, plastic, batteries, and all the organic wastes are composted by us and used as fertilizer in our garden- We support Legambiente, the leading environment ONG in Italy. We try to use almost all the products coming from our local community. We only employ local staff and use only local contractors. I've been part of the committee which draw the program of the actual town government, putting most of my attention and effort in defining environmental guidelines and in prohibiting OGM on our territory. We have a lot of literature about local attractions (art, history, theatres, fairs, bike and trekking guides and maps) which are at our guests' disposal. Moreover, we lecture anybody who's interested in all these fields, according to their desiderata. We suggest them local restaurants where they can try local food at reasonable prices and with high quality. The same goes with people interested in buying local food, we suggest them serious artisans who produce it (from home made pasta to balsamic vinegar, from wine producers to salami and other meat products, from parmesan cheese to local bread, etc.) Apart from our organic field vegetables, fruits, officinal herbs, small fruits, we also produce red wine and jams. We do encourage people to use public transport or our rented bikes, even when they caěome by car. We have a bus stop at 500 metres from us and a train station at 1500 metres. We employ one person who's living in the same town as us (Caterina is her name, she majored in biology in the university, and her main hobbies are learning to train dogs for helping disabled people and animal defence in general, for instance sometimes she saves all the little birds fallen from their nest around our farmhouse, she also worked in the past in a wild animal refugee place) Our electrician, Franco, comes from Bologna, 5 km Away from us. Our plumber, Marco, comes from Funo, about 20 km away from us. Our builder, Giuliano, comes from our same town 3 km away from us. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
