Zakynthos holiday accommodation

Returning to the farm, which belongs to the family for more than three centuries, in 1997, Angela and Dionyssis, were overwhelmed by the peace, the seclusion and the natural surroundings of this blessed place.

Giving other people the chance of experiencing these lovely feelings was the idea. So, they began on the top of the ruins of the old farmhouses to build houses with respect to their surroundings, their history and nature. Each Zakynthos holiday accommodation is totally independent, with main advantage peace and quietness. Some are completely new and others fully renovated.

All different from each other, they can accommodate from two the smallest till seven people the largest. They follow the local traditional architecture of the Zakynthian countryside outdoors and indoors. They are all decorated with love and care for detail.

The hand made curtains, the hand-woven wall hangings and colourful floormats and all the small objects give them a unique Greek colour and a genuine home feeling. Additionally, being very aware of environmental issues, they applied the principles of organic farming in cultivation procedures, creating an environment free from chemical fertilizers and pesticides, producing and establishing pure organic products. In this way, the farm became the first organic farm within the Marine Park area, being a pioneer in applying principles of sustainable farming.

In this piece of land, nature was generous and people here with respect to this generosity enjoy its gifts. Pinetree and oaktree forests that lead the eye right into the deep blue sea. Olive groves for our extra virgin organic olive oil. Vegetable garden for our seasonal vegetables and fruits. Cows, sheep, goats, chickens providing us all their freshly products. And all this just 800 meters distance from excellent golden sandy beaches, with crystal clear shallow waters, ideal for children.

  • how this holiday makes a difference
Tourism is changing rapidly as, nature, heritage and recreational destinations become more important to the traveler, and as conventional tourism is forced to meet tougher environmental requirements. This change is a challenge to the farm people to develop new approaches to the tourism market. Our goal is to enable visitors to learn about the natural, historical and cultural characteristics of our area and to enjoy their stay, while we give importance to preserving the integrity of such a unique place.

Therefore, all houses at our Zakynthos holiday accommodation follow the principles of our architectural heritage, and are placed in harmony within their natural surroundings, contributing to preserving local architectural style and sustainable tourism development. With our organic products our guests can taste pure flavors and become familiar with the local cuisine and Mediterranean diet.

We encourage visitors to use our free provided mountain bikes to explore the area, offering a way of moving around friendly to the environment. Horse riding gives the visitor the chance of a different way of discovering nature, combining sports with fun. Walking paths and dirt tracks are suggested for enjoying and appreciating our natural surroundings.

We inform our visitors about our area and encourage them to visit the environmental information center. We advise visitors to use water and power sparingly and avoid wasting our energy and water resources. We minimize power consumption by using energy saving bulbs, solar power for hot water, and special contacts that will not allow our air-conditioning units to operate while doors or windows remain open. We also recycle our wastewater, using it for watering our plants.

We provide a full time income to two local people and local families own every service we recommend or routinely make use of – taxis, car hire, boat hire. Restaurants suggested are all owned and run by local families and, local mini markets are supported by encouraging our guest to do their shopping at them. The economy of the village therefore benefits from every guest being here.

Being the first organic farm in our village we have contacted our village’s primary school and offered free visits, so kids can learn and appreciate the organic way of farming. School has accepted and local children are already aware of organic farming practices and sustainable agriculture, giving this way the local future generations the chance of managing the environment in a better way.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
