description
This little house is in a great position about a 10-minute walk from the village shops and about a 20-minute walk from the sea at Trévignon. The beaches here are fine white sand and the area is amazingly uncommercialised. The house has a secluded garden which is mostly grass and flowerbeds, with a terrace which has a barbecue and garden furniture for outdoor dining. There is also a garage. Inside, the house is a fairly simple standard but it is spacious and light and well equipped; we think it is a very good holiday home.
rooms, food and facilities
The house is all on the ground floor. There is a combined living area and dining room with comfortable seating, fireplace and television. This room has three sets of French windows opening onto the garden. The kitchen area is equipped with oven, hob, microwave, fridge, cafetière, toaster and kettle. Bedroom one has a double bed and bedroom two has twin beds. There is a bathroom with bath, shower attached over the bath, bidet and W.C. There is a washing machine in the garage. The house has electric heating.

The house is situated in the hamlet of Kerléo, a short walk from the little village of St Philibert (about 800m) which has a boulangerie which sells basic provisions, restaurant, pharmacy and bar. During the summer holidays there is a small food shop open 7 days a week at the campsite at the crossroads between Kerléo and St Philibert (about 500 metres). Bike hire is also available here.

There are more shops, restaurants and two supermarkets at Tregunc, about 8 km. It is about 20 minutes walk to the beach at Trévignon. There is an excellent creperie called la Marinière which overlooks the harbour where you can see the fishing boats come in. Fresh fish and shellfish are sold at the port in Trévignon and there is a local market of organic produce on Sunday mornings.

It is about 10km from Concarneau, with its remarkable walled city and its great choice of restaurants and shops. This is a great area for cycling. There are many activities in the area: water sports, boat hire, canoeing, boat trips out to the Iles Glénans. There is a large indoor water park, Les Balnéides, at Fouesnant, about 15km. The property is about 12km from Pont Aven, famous for its artists, 25km from the chic resort of Bénodet and 30km from Quimper, a beautiful cultural city.

Family & baby friendly: It is possible to arrange babysitting upon request and a cot and high chair are available for hire.
how to find us
There are railway stations at Roscoff and St Malo, so foot passengers arriving by ferry can travel by train on the regional network to other parts of Brittany. The same network can be used by air passengers arriving at Brest, Rennes or Nantes.
how this holiday makes a difference
Holidays in France are largely about enjoying the culture of another country and we promote this in every way we can. There are many Breton festivals in this area in which visitors are very welcome to participate, the most famous being the Fête des Filets Bleues at Concarneau.

From the house it is an easy walk to sandy beaches and to the entrance to a fascinating nature reserve, the ‘Site Classé des Dunes et Etangs de Trévignon’. 6km of sand dunes stretch from the Pointe de Trévignon to the Pointe de la Jument, with the sea on one side and seven lakes on the other, providing an unique habitat, home to a wide diversity of plants and wildlife. The ‘Maison du Littoral’ at the start of the reserve has a wealth of information about this. There are many waymarked footpaths in the area. The Grand Randonée 34 runs along the coast. Trégunc Tourist Information office has a booklet with local walks.

Visitors are able to enjoy a beautiful, unspoilt environment at the same time as supporting the local economy. Small scale coastal fishing is the lifeblood of many of the smaller Breton ports and you can buy fresh fish most days directly from the fishermen at Trévignon harbour - see the blackboard there for updates. On Tuesdays there is an organic market at Trégunc, between 16h and 19h. During the summer there is a weekly market of local produce at the car park in Trévignon on Sunday mornings. The owners employ a cleaner and caretaker to look after the property. All this, along with renting the property, injects money into the local economy and supports life in rural France.

The owner of the house provides environmentally friendly cleaning products for our tenants. Paper, plastic and glass are recycled, and bags for sorting out the rubbish are provided. Recycling facilities are at the roadside, just at the end of the driveway to the house. There are composting facilities in the garden which tenants are encouraged to use.

There is a bus stop in the centre of St Philibert village, by the school, where you can catch buses to Trégunc. Bicycle hire is available in the summer from the campsite by the crossroads between the house and St Philibert village.

We support a range of charities and projects in France and worldwide which provide aid to vulnerable communities and habitats, e.g. ASSOHUMA, a French charity which organises trips taking humanitarian and medical aid to women in Afghanistan and families in remote Sénégal; Shared Interest, a co-operative lending society which provides funding for Third World producers.

Our office is in Devon is in a redundant agricultural building which we re-built using reclaimed, traditional materials. We support the Devon Wildlife Trust and we have nest boxes and feeding stations in the office grounds to encourage the birds. Our water for the office comes from a spring and is pumped by a water-powered ram. We do not produce a paper brochure; our bookings and enquiries are handled by email and all our office paper and printing cartridges are re-cycled. Our shredded documents go on the compost heap.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
