description
Bedroom, Casa Santa Maria With its privileged location and panoramic distant sea views, Casa Santa Maria enjoys the best of both worlds – a village setting amongst the Balagne hills and a convenient location just 5km from the town centre and sandy beaches of Ile Rousse.

Situated on the edge of a pretty hilltop village, this impressive village house combines traditional features with a superbly stylish and spacious interior, using the best traditional materials.

Jacuzzi, Casa Santa MariaA unique feature of the house is its own small private chapel just across the road and to which only guests (and the owners) have the key. On 15th August, it throws open its doors to the whole village to celebrate the Patron Saint. Guests also have shared use of the chapel's own delightful garden ('Jardin du Cure' - Priest's Garden) and outdoor Jacuzzi.

The village has two small restaurants open in season, a bakery and butcher’s shop, while Monticello, with its well known gastronomic restaurant, is only 3km away.

Walking and cycling: For keen walkers a track leads from the house up to the high mountain village of St Antonino where your efforts are rewarded with stunning views and a well-deserved meal at one of the local restaurants. Challenging terrain for keen mountain bikers also.

  • how this holiday makes a difference
Local materials, most notably stone have been used by the owners of this villa. The owners also restored a small chapel and the frescoes within, which sits next door to the villa and is solely for the use of owners and clients. The villa’s swimming pool is solar heated. Solar panels are also used to provide heating and hot water inside the villa.

We are proud to promote responsible travel and would very much like to encourage our guests to be proactive in recycling and utilising local recycling facilities, in order to help us make a positive impact in maintaining the beauty and harmony of this stunning island. Details of the nearest recycling facilities, provided by the council, can be found in your villa and your information Guide. We encourage you to use these facilities during your stay in Corsica. If you do have any further queries regarding recycling please contact your local representative.

All our villas contain an information pack promoting other local shops, restaurants and local places of interest, especially in the smaller rural communities. Our country representatives have detailed knowledge of local businesses and facilities and are able to ensure that clients are well informed on where to buy local produce in order to support the local economy.

As a company we aim to encourage local economic growth and to work in harmony with local communities and to respect their culture, traditions and environments. All of our owners and suppliers used are local. We prefer to employ the services of independent local business as suppliers in each of their destinations. We work with local car hire firms for all our car rentals and we utilize the services of local village shops and mini markets to compile our welcome hampers.

We also encourage our guests to use the services of local restaurants and shops, archaeological sites/excursions - always booking through locals rather than large multi national companies. In addition to this we encourage our guests to visit local attractions and beaches within the area they are staying, as opposed to suggesting they go further afield.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
