description
Commanding a privileged position between the picturesque town of Sartene and the Gulf of Valinco, this former winery, complete with its own stone chapel, provides an unusual and charming holiday home.
The dynamic and charming owners (who live discreetly next door) have paid great attention to detail in re-inventing this 'Maison de Maitre' using traditional materials like wooden beams, bricks and terracotta tiles to recapture the authenticity of times past. The vines have been cleared to make way for olive groves and fields for the cows to graze in, creating a real feeling of rural splendor.
Nearby there is a much-photographed Genoese bridge on the way to the pretty mountain village of St Lucie de Tallano and further inland the Bavella "needles" beckon mountain walkers and nature lovers. Propriano, one of our favourite seaside towns is only 15 minutes away while the beaches of Propriano, Portigliolo and Campo Moro are all also within a short drive.
The old vines may have gone, but only two minutes up the road there's the Domaine de Fiumiccicoli which produces its own delicious wine. Take a glass in the cool of the evening up to your very own stone chapel, enjoy the spectacular views and count your blessings.
Please note: Based on return flights from the UK - supplements / reductions may be applicable depending on flight & class availability at time of booking.

The dynamic and charming owners (who live discreetly next door) have paid great attention to detail in re-inventing this 'Maison de Maitre' using traditional materials like wooden beams, bricks and terracotta tiles to recapture the authenticity of times past. Many of these materials were gathered from the original ruins on site. Other materials came from local suppliers and all builders used were locals.
The owner provides an organic herb garden and encourages clients to help themselves. There are also cows grazing on site to maintain the grass which is obviously less costly and pollutant than conventional landscaping methods! The owner has an area which serves as a compost heap for food waste from guests staying the in villa. We are proud to promote responsible travel and would very much like to encourage our guests to be proactive in recycling and utilising local recycling facilities, in order to help us make a positive impact in maintaining the beauty and harmony of this stunning island. Details of the nearest recycling facilities, provided by the council, can be found in your villa and your information guide. We encourage you to use these facilities during your stay in Corsica. If you do have any further queries regarding recycling please contact your local representative. All our villas contain an information pack promoting other local shops, restaurants and local places of interest, especially in the smaller rural communities. Our country representatives have detailed knowledge of local businesses and facilities and are able to ensure that clients are well informed on where to buy local produce in order to support the local economy. As a company we aim to encourage local economic growth and to work in harmony with local communities and to respect their culture, traditions and environments. All of our owners and suppliers used are local. We prefer to employ the services of independent local business as suppliers in each of their destinations. We work with local car hire firms for all our car rentals and we utilize the services of local village shops and mini markets to compile our welcome hampers. We also encourage our guests to use the services of local restaurants and shops, archaeological sites/excursions - always booking through locals rather than large multi national companies. In addition to this we encourage our guests to visit local attractions and beaches within the area they are staying, as opposed to suggesting they go further afield. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
