A unique boutique hotel that is built to fit in a local community & environment by employing locals, using all local, recycle wood from the black sea for hand carved furniture to organically grown fruit, vegetables and olive oil. Completely blended in the nature. The local population in recent years has been moving towards the town of Fethiye and further afield. By employing local people we hope that we will be able to maintain the locals in the village and that they may become prosperous. We spend a lot of time to train them take them to the surrounding hotels/restaurants for them to see how things work. Beside the staff that are employed on site, we also encourage our neighbors to cultivate their land which for many years they have stop doing so. This of course as the earth has not been treated with any chemical for many years, this is already an organic ground to start producing our fruit and vegetable that we are using in our organic kitchen. We use some old recipes with our local products. As we have superking size 4 poster beds our linen has to be made especially for use, so we have found a place in Anatolia the town of Denizli and we have organic silk linen made from plants and organic dye. We try to explain to the villagers about the wild birds and when how to go hunting if they wish but to avoid during the period of when birds lay eggs. We support the small primary school in the village by donating computer equipment, books pens etc. Any water that comes out of a sink, shower, tap goes into a separate tank which is filter again and use to water the garden. This is kept in a separate tank. The same is done for any surplus water from the pool and Jacuzzi. So the only water that is waste is the one flushed through the w/c. Waste is first separated bottle/paper and cardboard is recycle brought to town. Any remaining degradable is recycled as compost, animal food for neighbours goats and cows, our dog Pasha. We try to teach villagers about wildlife, help animals with food try to locate and secure habitat of wild birds, try to monitor and report the killing of wild boar. We use electricity saver bulbs, low voltage where possible, advise people to switch of a/c or lights when not in use or in the room. We do check rooms after clients are out, and explain clients that electricity in the village is hard to get and more expensive in some cases. Our solar system allows us to be self sufficient year round maybe with the exception of a total 1 week a year. We have our own well which we have tested our water and found that it is clean, pure and free from anything and we try to encourage our clients to minimize the use of bottle water and use the one we have coming out from our own ground. We train the locals and all our staff are from the village itself. Most of our wine sold is organic, produced in Turkey. All our furniture is made from recycled antique wood dating back 100-150 years old. All hand carved in the Black Sea region of Turkey. The wood is collected when they demolish old Mosque big building etc and used to built furniture, doors etc. Local transportation is the only way to get in and out of the village. We inform on several basis our clients regarding places of interest they can visit, customs in the village and make sure that if there is a wedding, or any festivities nearby they go and be part of it. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've lead the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
