description
You can find us right on the beach at the Bomvu river mouth, hidden away on the Wild coast where traditional living is still the norm. We offer a variety of accommodation, including camping, dorm beds and private rooms. We have exceptional communal bathroom facilities, well equipped kitchens for self-catering as well as offering great value meals and tropical cocktails in the infamous Babalaza Bar.
There are daily activities including hiking, surf lessons, cultural excursions and abseiling. You’ll find plenty of space and hammocks to relax in, or you can join fellow travellers with a beer by the evening camp fire, go on the free sundowners, be entertained by the traditional dancers and drummers, spend a night with the locals in the village, make your own drum or relax on the beach.

how this holiday makes a difference
We are dedicated to making a difference to the local community and are thus 30% owned by the local Tshezi Community, who receive direct financial benefits from being involved in the business. We aim to encourage growth and empowerment opportunities for the local community through the development of meaningful partnerships. We have been certified by Fair Trade in Tourism South Africa (FTTSA). This accreditation is awarded to tourism businesses that adhere to fair trade criteria such as fair wages and working conditions, fairness in operations, purchasing and distribution of benefits, ethical business practice and respect for human rights, culture and the environment. Education and training: Job creation, skills and small business development: Community development and support: Conservation and environmental initiatives: Cultural education and interaction: HIV/AIDS education and prevention: We are dedicated to the prevention of this disease through education and awareness. Internally we have a policy and implementation strategy to ensure that we comply with the legal requirements and that our employees are fully supported. We have held many awareness days, for our staff, their families and the community at large. Workshops are ongoing and we aim to hold one every 6 months to promote voluntary testing and awareness. We support staff in accessing ARV’s, we provide and distribute condoms in all our bathrooms, we display posters promoting awareness and removing ignorance, and we aim to provide an environment that is conducive to openness, disclosure and acceptance. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
