how this holiday makes a difference
All our employers are part of the local community. All our employees are local, in the high season we have 25 employees and they are all trained directly by us. We support and sponsor most of the local cultural and sport activity. We always encourage to visit all the local attractions giving to our guest maps and indications. We like that our guest enjoy everything that our region can offer. We encourage them to eat in local restaurants, buy local product and use local services. We try to encourage to use public transport giving all the information they would need, and we have a bus station not far from the hotel, but public transport in Sardinia is not really good.

We buy our electricity from Edison Electric they produce hydro electric. We have just presented a project for 16 solar panel over our parking place, we are waiting for the approval from the regional government. We try to minimise energy use in many ways. All lights in our hotel have energy efficient bulbs. All the appliances we have either in the hotel as in the restaurant are energy efficient. The light in the corridor and walking areas have proximity sensors, and the lights in public areas have timers. We used the bio-architecture and many little attentions to create a better isolation, so that we need less energy to heat in the winter and keep it cold in summer. We also try to educate our guest to turn off light, heater and a/c when they leave the room with posters, and by explaining our politics.

We have 700 mq of terrace surrounded with climbing plants that protect the building from the cold, the warm and the sun. We harvest the rainwater on pitchers and amphoras of terra-cotta for watering. We collect rain water for use in the garden, all the water that falls over the building ends up in 29 huge water butts, which waters the plants. We also have showers and half flush toilets to reduce water use. We always use eco-label certified cleaning product. All the energy we use is 100% made with renewable source. In our hotel we apply a total diversified harvest for our guests. We instruct our employees and we try to sensitize our guest to the water saving and the reduction of the CO2 emission. Even in our restaurant we try to encourage the guests to eat local food and all the ingredients are from the local surroundings. All our employees are part of the local community. We support and sponsor most of the local cultural and sport activity.

We have a laundry scheme where we only change towels and sheets after 3 days or when guests request them to be changed. We try to encourage wildlife with bird boxes included in our buganvil plants, that surround our building. We compost organic and garden waste and use it for our garden after two years. In our hotel we make a complete division of the waste and we try to recycle everything that is possible. In every room there are 4 different containers for plastic paper organic and not recyclable waste. Plus we have a collector point for used oil and used batteries.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
