introduction to Carribean
We offer seven self contained apartments with fully equipped kitchenettes. Each apartment has its own private patio with a panoramic view of the capital city Kingstown, the Grenadine island chain and Fort Charlotte.
The apartments are a locally owned and family run business which was established in 1997. The size of the establishment allows us to provide a personal service to our guests and allows a high level of contact with the friendly people, local customs and cultural practices of the area. Our facilities are designed for the budget traveller but are clean and comfortable with an emphasis on service. We integrate our services with local tour operators, car rentals, tour guides, local fisher folks, restaurants, craft vendors and market vendors.

The object of establishing this enterprise was to participate in the social and economic development of the state. Tourism is the largest contributor to GDP and the main private sector employer and foreign exchange earner for the state. The establishment of the service business is also in keeping with government’s policy of diversifying the economy following a significant fall in banana price and exports. We are located within a working class community from which our staff are employed. All staff - office, house keeping, maintenance security and grounds are employed from the immediate community. We support sports and cultural efforts in the community while providing employment for members of the community. The staff are afforded regular training opportunities organised by the SGHTA and the Ministry of Tourism. Guests are provided with the opportunity to explore the community along with the various attractions located in the state through guided tours and information brochures, pamphlets magazines etc. Guests are also given information on local restaurants, shops and vegetable, meat and fish markets. Guests are encouraged to try local cuisine and experience various cultural events. Re-usable glass bottles, glasses, plates and cutlery are used as much as possible. The septic system is self contained and does not form part of the general waste disposal system. Rooms are designed to make maximum use of prevailing winds for cooling and light from the sun for drying laundry. Solar water heaters are used for showers and energy saving devices are installed to conserve electricity. We encourage wildlife by planting trees and fauna on grounds to attract natural wildlife and no chemicals are used for weed control. We employ organic gardening practices and compost from garden and kitchen is used to fertilise plants. Environmentally friendly cleaning products are used as far as they are available and affordable. Building materials, mainly in the form of locally mined sand and aggregates were used in the construction of the premises. These materials are abundant in supply and mining activities have little or no impact on the environment. Our apartments are located near to the State Hospital. We provide special low rates for disadvantaged children from the Caribbean visiting SVG for medical attention. We provide temporary accommodation for families in times of natural disasters. We also give an annual donation to ST Benedict’s Day Care Centre and assistance to staff for home improvements. Guests are welcome to contribute to sporting and cultural groups in the community. Notices and signs in relation to use of linen, towels and health and safety are on display in our apartments. Garbage receptacles are provided in all rooms. Garbage is sorted for disposal. Secure grease traps are provided for kitchen waste in keeping with public health requirements. Septic systems are regularly inspected and maintained. Office and other staff are available for information and guidance. Signs, posters and other information are appropriately displayed. Internet and telephone services are available. Information pamphlets, fliers and magazines are located in all rooms. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
