  • how this holiday makes a difference
Our hotel is owned and operated by Beresford and Ruth Stevens who in mid 2007 returned to St. Vincent and the Grenadines from the United States after living abroad for 40 and 37 years respectively. Fifteen years ago, they built their welcoming and intimate retirement home and over the years shared it with many friends and families. Many visitors developed a love for the tranquil and natural beauty of St. Vincent and the Grenadines and would return again and again. Determined to help with the development of tourism in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, they have decided to use their extensive experience and management skills together with their knowledge of community development and cultural awareness to have their guests experience a truly “Vincentian” hospitality with the luxury of home away from home.

For more than 10 years, we have offered scholarships to Calliaqua Government School for students who performed well on their CXC exam academically and others due to their socio-economic conditions. We also participate in a community outreach program for the poor and for natural disasters especially around the holiday season and/hurricanes. We also support financially with housing and funeral expenses. We use our guests’ donations to help support the above.

Luxury hotel on St VincentWe use every opportunity to inform/teach our guests of our rich history especially about the Caribs, Garufunas, European, French and African influences in our country. We pride ourselves in our eco tourism. With the help of tapes from our tourism department and feedback from our guests, we provide our staff with on going training to meet the highest standard. Also, we try to employ community workers who view this establishment with a sense of pride. They can walk to work and thus able to save on transportation cost. We buy produce from local farmers especially the ones who practice good eco friendly farming. The weekly literature, “What’s On in St. Vincent”, published by St. Vincent Tourism Association, is offered to our guests. In addition, our guests are informed about other community and cultural events

We use mostly homegrown products and we do not use chemicals or do testing on animals. We also use our compost pit to discard of most of our waste and recycle back into the soil. We conserve water and recycle on the lawn. Rainwater is collected for some consumption and for gardening. We have no other choice but to save electricity due to the price. We suggest to our guests to do likewise in our “helpful hints” booklet

We respect and protect our wildlife system and encourage others to do so. Gardening is very essential to maintain a well-balanced eco-system. We pride ourselves with the variety of plants we have on our grounds. We use as many natural products as possible to clean our hotel. Many of these products/practices, for example aloe for cleaning the floors, have been handed down to us by our forefathers.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
