description
Our Algarve bed & breakfast accommodation is an old farmhouse that was professionally renovated in 2006. All rooms have high wooden ceilings, original stone walls, private entrance and patio to the front. We have decorated each room individually, combining local style with modern comfort. There are tea and coffee making facilities, hair dryers, satelite t.v and room fans in all rooms. Air conditioning is available. Most rooms have WiFi access and can take an additional bed.
Outside, the grounds nearer the house have been landscaped to provide areas for sitting and relaxation. Further away from the house, some areas have been left untouched, providing a wonderful chance for nature to take over. All landscaping and replanting has been carried out with a view to keeping the grounds as natural as possible while still meeting the needs of guests on holidays.
The emphasis is on relaxation and just enjoying what is around you. We have a large stone barbeque and will even buy your barbeque food for you. We have a large swimming pool, table tennis table and boules court. The honestly bar by the pool provides beer, wine and soft drinks. Indoors we have a small guest library, information area and a selection of board games. We live on site as a family and are there to help you in any way you want.
Walking and Cycling: This is a great area for walking and cycling. We keep a number of walking guides in our information area and work with local walking and cycling holiday providers. We also organise walking holidays for individuals or groups, according to their interests and level of fitness.

special things to do and see from our Algarve bed & breakfast
The accommodation is available for hire as a whole. We welcome groups of up to 15 people. It is an ideal venue for walking, art, music and wellness groups, particularly off season when air fares are cheaper and we are able to offer a very affordable rate. It also makes an ideal venue for family reunions, special birthdays, New Year and Easter breaks -or just a good excuse to meet up with old friends. Air conditioning is also available. A small library, information area and board games are available in the kitchen. Family friendly: Children are very welcome. It has proved to be a delight for families as there is plenty of space and lots of new and interesting birds, insects, flowers and plants to discover. We are happy to organise walking days for families. Families who stay here enjoy the peace, the safety, the opportunity to do simple things together and the freedom to run, walk and wander all over the grounds. As the guest house was originally an old farm and has an unfenced swimming pool, parents do need to be responsible for supervising their children at all times. We are usually able to arrange an English speaking babysitter.
Baby friendly: We have travel cots, a table chair and baby alarms. Babies are very welcome.
Over 50's: We have accommodation suitable for singles, couples and groups and one bedroom specially adapted for people with limited mobility. The guest accommodation is all on the ground floor. We are open all year round. This is an ideal walking area and we keep information on walks from 2 - 4 hours in duration as well as leading walks for guests ourselves.
Disabled access: We have one twin bedroom at the front of the house which has been adapted with guests with limited mobility in mind. There are handrails in the bathroom and no steps into the shower. The room would not be suitable for all wheelchair users.
By rail: Nearest train station is Messines/Alte (12 km) or Silves and nearest bus station is Silves (6km)
By air: The nearest airport is Faro airport (56 Km). We can arrange airport pick ups but a shuttle bus service is also available.

how this holiday makes a difference
|
Holidays at our Algarve bed & breakfast are based on encouraging guests to relax and enjoy the beauty of nature that surrounds them. Guests are very welcome to spend the day here - there is no need to always rush off after breakfast - just spend the day here, and just realise how much there is to do by just being part of this wonderful area.
We are keen walkers ourselves and are able to support experienced and novice walkers by advising them on routes, according to their interests and ability. We also organise walking holidays and are particularly geared towards people taking their first walking holiday. In this way we feel we can make a significant change to the type of holiday that our guests will choose in the future. Each room has its own information booklet, with information about the area and suggestions of things to do based in rural Algarve. We encourage our guests to consider alternative holiday activities including car-free days out for adults and children, cycling and canoeing. The only meal we serve is breakfast, which uses local produce as much as possible and our own fruit in season. We know our local restaurants and cafes and advise guests on which to choose according to their individual preferences. To encourage use of the local restaurants, we explain local dishes and help with Portuguese names and words. Our water for guest and family use is heated by solar panels. It does, however need to be supplemented on some days in the winter. We have our own well. Guests are encouraged to adopt a sensible approach to water use in the booklet that welcomes them. We are an integral part of the local community. We shop locally, our children attend the local schools, we belong to a local church and we all speak Portuguese. We participate in local activities and attend all local festas. We share information about local events with guests and encourage them to experience traditional festas and celebrations. We employed local builders and architects on the renovation of our Algarve bed & breakfast guesthouse and all materials were bought locally. We use all Portuguese services such as accountancy, plumbing, mechanics etc and are occasionally able to give work to our neighbours. By choosing to live and establish our business here in rural Algarve we have been able, in some small way, to bring life back into an area that was rapidly declining. We can offer a real alternative to mass tourism, providing high quality accommodation and facilities but in a way that is sensitive to the environment and respectful of tradition and culture. We hope that a holiday here will encourage many people to take a new approach to their holidays in the future. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
