The retreat is nestled into a 250 acres Biological Reserve, overlooking the Caribbean Sea. Nine hundred feet above the water level, four miles from the beach, the cottages, restaurant and conference room are exquisitely private, blessed with a constant breeze, shaded by abundant vegetation and surrounded by beautiful gardens. The large Jacuzzi with sundeck is the hot-spot, where one can relax, sunbathe while listening to the rich forest’s sounds and gaze at the ocean.
special things to do and see here
We offer the following daily, guided activities as well as organized packages that include the most popular excursions which are "must see" before you leave Costa Rica - rain forest canopy adventure, surfing lessons, cacao trail, samasati biological reserve, bird watching guided tour, Cahuita National Park, Kekoldi Indigenous Reserve, shaman tour, waterfall trekking, sea and river kayaking, horseback riding at the beach and white water rafting.

Spa: Complete your journey into the rain forest with a soothing massage or a relaxing and exotic spa treatment. Indulge in the centuries of wisdom and tradition that cultivate a sense of balance. Our massages will make your body forget the sensation of stress. Our exclusive treatments fuse together ingredients indigenous to the mystical regions of Costa Rica. Water used in the spa is collected from the gentle rain or from the property water springs. When combined with this moisture and oxygen rich environment, ideal conditions for healing manifest.

Yoga: Our resident teacher is a certified Hatha Yoga Instructor with ten years of experience. Our Yoga room is a screened hexagonal building surrounded by the forest, with shiny wood polished floors. You might spot a toucan in your morning class, or a group of howler monkeys in your afternoon class!
rooms, food and facilities
The retreat has 9 handcrafted bungalows with private bathroom, 5 rooms with shared bathrooms and two houses completely furnished.

Nine Caribbean style bungalows are nestled into lovely tropical gardens. Built with precious woods exquisitely polished, all have private bathrooms with hot water and spacious verandas overlooking the jungle and the sea. Some have lofts, enabling use as a suite... with the bed upstairs and living room downstairs... or to accomodate three to four people. Beds have high quality single, queen or king size mattresses.

The guest house standard is located in a sweet jungle valley favored by toucans, monkeys and dazzling butterflies. Five double rooms, each with two single beds, open onto a spacious veranda with cozy, inviting hammocks. Shared bathrooms with hot water are located at each end of the guest house.

The guest house deluxe is located between two huge Javillo trees. It is 250 meters from the restaurant. Three bedrooms with king or queen size beds on the second and third floor of the house are sharing one bathroom (hot water) and 2 ample verandas allow you to have a majestic view of the jungle and of the sea.

Every room has hot water. Rooms are cleaned daily and linen and towels are changed every second day. A vegetarian restaurant with a spectacular view of the Caribbean sea, serves three meals a day buffet style. Fish can be ordered. A Jacuzzi and a small spa is available for guest who want to take advantage of our wellness vacations.

Family & baby friendly: Families with children are welcome. All the excursions can be taken by children of all ages and we can organize baby-sitting if needed. Upon request, yoga can be taught to children.

The retreat employees 20 people form the village been one of the major economic income of the village. Staff working here are trained in the different job positions and supported and paid to go to courses to learn more in details their job. Staff is trained so that is able to cover different positions in the retreat and to be promoted from one position to another (From cleaners they can be trained to be receptionists or secretaries if they show inclination to learn and improve). We watch over the families of our employees, making sure they all live in harmony and they have what they need from a material point of view. We make sure and treasure the exchange between its clients and the staff, and inform the clients about the local culture by having books available for reading. The retreat is an important part of the commission of tourism on the South Caribbean where the interests of the local people and of the areas are protected. We buy as much goods as possible from locals (e.g. eggs, vegetables etc) and makes sure that all the products used at the retreat are in alignment with the sustainability of it.

The retreat employes only local people giving a substantial economic income to 20 families of the village. We purchase most of our goods from the local markets available. We organize excursions only with local tour operators, supporting a big part of the tourist economy of the village. Clients are invited to participate to excursions and to dine at local restaurants and buy at local stores.

The retreat produces very little waste as it has its own compost where the whole organic waste is placed. Rain water is collected and used for showers and toilets. Information is passed on to the clients verbally and written about tips about no wasting water. The clients are informed by signs in the rooms that water comes from our springs and it needs to be saved. Short shower are suggested, as well as closing the tap water when brushing teeth. The retreat uses the bulbs which save electricity in all its outlets. Verbal and written communication is passed on to clients and employees to save electricity. The retreat prohibited hunting on the property in 1994. No big machinery is used in order not to disturb wildlife, so that the property is now habited by a lot of animals and birds. Only biodegradable products are used at the retreat. All the staff have been trained to use these products. Guests and staff are educated to our environmental practices by written and verbal material. The description of the CST program is, for example, display at the reception area for everybody to consult and learn about.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
