description
This resort is perched on 55 acres of jungle surrounded by the Morne Trois Piton National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The park is the only World Heritage site in the Eastern Caribbean, home of the second largest boiling lake in the world. Dominica, the ideal rainforest adventure destination, is known for its unspoiled, seldom touristed beauty. Every moment on this enchanted island is worthy of a postcard and you can experience it all with a knowledgeable local guide to take you off-the-beaten-track.

Think hiking through the rainforest to emerge at a breathtaking waterfall, mountain biking through local villages, sea kayaking along the scenic coast, snorkeling to view tropical marine life through "champagne" bubbles created by undersea volcanoes and frolicking in therapeutic hot springs.

On-site there are plenty of opportunities for Yoga, drumming meditation, indulgent spa treatments, a dip in the volcanic stone pool, and eating fine cuisine with a local flare at the restaurant. The spa package includes accommodation in private jungle cottage, airport or ferry pick up & drop off, meals & island fresh juices, daily yoga or drumming mediation, daily scheduled excursions and daily half-hour massage or other spa treatment.

Bedroom, luxury resort in DominicaOur luxury eco-resort features thirty-five tastefully furnished tropical hardwood cottages elevated on wooden posts, nestled beneath the undisturbed jungle of Dominica. Cottages are spacious and feature wood furnishings all "designed and built" at the resort. Cottages are perched like birds nests, tucked away on a hillside between Cedar, Gomier and Galba trees. A spring fed stream cascades along the valley below. Special care was taken to preserve the forest in its original form. Cottages are accessed through a series of footpaths and stone staircases. The low impact night lighting along with the sound of the Atlantic surf creates a romantic, surreal ambiance - especially around the night of a full moon.

Accommodation in a private jungle cottage features: 1 king-size bed or 2 double beds, private bathroom with attached semi-outdoor shower, balcony with rainforest views, mini-refrigerator, telephone, in-room coffee/tea maker and tastefully decorated in hand-made furniture and local decor. Other facilities include:

    Pool, luxury resort in Dominica
  • Spa offering relaxing massages, manicures, pedicures and facials
  • Studios that overlook the Atlantic Ocean
  • Enjoy swimming in the volcanic-stone pool surrounded by wide wooden decks
  • Poolside bar & beach bar with sun deck
  • Recreation & games room with pool, table tennis, board games, book exchange and more
  • Complimentary use of guest computers & wireless internet at the front office
  • Laundry services available
  • 2 Yoga studios which are 2400 square feet and 1000 square feet respectively
  • World-class meeting facilities to host meetings and conferences

Food & dining: Dining at our eco-resort is truly a unique experience, where you can sample some unique Caribbean cuisine. Our Jungle Pavilion restaurant comes complete with tropical forest motif including a royal palm tree protruding through its roof. This open air octagonal structure overlooks our stone pool and the Ocean. The atmosphere is a perfect complement to our 'fun and healthy living' atmosphere.

Walking & hiking: There are many nearby places to go for hikes including Victoria Falls, Sari Sari Falls, Glasse Trail, Boiling Lake and Perdu Temps trail. The Zom Zom hiking trail, is located on our 55 acre property leading to a traditional fishing point with panoramic view of the resort and the Southeast coastline.

The beach: Our rocky beach is a lovely place to explore or relax onshore. Due to the size of the waves here, we do not recommend swimming. For a cool refreshing dip, take a short stroll off property to the nearby White River. The whitish mineral waters here have reputed healing properties and are sourced all the way from the Boiling Lake.

how this holiday makes a difference
    Community
We employ 59 Dominicans, virtually all from the villages immediately surrounding the resort. We take pride in the fact that we are a leader in providing education and training opportunities, competitive wages and a friendly environment for our staff. We source as much as possible from the local community. Our food is purchased from local farmers, we employ artisans for specific projects and offer a space for them to display and sell their artwork. We offer ongoing economic opportunities for farmers, construction workers, artisans, taxi drivers and tour guides.

Bananas, luxury resort in DominicaSince the beginning our focus has been the alleviation of poverty through full-time, positive employment subsequent to an economic collapse in the villages surrounding the resort. We have trained and empowered unemployed banana farmers and local villagers to form a team of dedicated international standard hotel and restaurant staff members, many of them rising from entry level positions to head their departments in less than 1 year.

We also offer an entrepreneurship loan program which lends up to $15,000 per person for small businesses such as greenhouses, coffee bean processing and women’s sewing groups.

    Environment
Positive contributions are made to the conservation and biodiversity of the area through the development of a comprehensive nature interpretation center onsite to inform guests about the flora and fauna of the local area. This focuses on local tour guides with specific knowledge about the plants and animals of Dominica, our support of ROSTI in their goal to create a safe environment for the endangered sea turtles of the Caribbean and the development of a Healing Plants of Dominica brochure to accompany our weekly presentations on the useful herbs, spices and fruits of Dominica.

Our resort currently reduces our footprint through the use of energy efficient light bulbs, fans instead of air conditioning and solar tube water heaters in testing phase through 15% of cottages with plans to integrate system to all cottages after testing phase. We use plot-less, tank-less heaters for hot water on demand system the rest of the cottages (no hot water to rest of resort). We have minimal pathway and resort lighting which is turned off when not in use.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
