how this holiday makes a difference
    Environment
We provide accommodation and services on an exclusive basis and our eco lodge is as environmentally friendly as possible – respecting the fragile ecosystem of the desert. Our ecolodge incorporates local architectural, cultural and natural characteristics. It is privately owned and a lot of thought has been put into creating a truly authentic experience for the guest. Built out of natural and local materials; adobe brick, wood, stone, bamboo, thus allowing the guest to feel closer to the nature. It is our purpose to deliver unique experience whilst exploring the Atacama desert and focus on environmentally low impact travel at the same time. Solar energy is used, to reduce the consumption of electric energy – especially for lightning. Our grounds are fertilized by compost made out of biodegradable waste from the lodge, increasing the productivity of our soils, for producing own vegetables and fruits.

We use ecologically friendly products in our lodge, such as biodegradable detergents, shampoos etc. The waste is separated and biodegradable waste reused as fertilizer in the gardens. The water used on our premises is treated and reused for irrigation of our gardens and plants. We provide our guests with cultural and environmental do’s and don’ts in order to protect the fragile ecosystem of the desert whilst on explorations. Guests are provided with wildlife preservation rules (for example not feeding any of the wild animals seen).

We employ locals from nearby communities. We only have 4 employees, as maximum capacity is 7 guests, 3 of which are local. Our guests are shown the local markets and shops and are encouraged to shop for handicraft items locally made. Guests receive complete information on historical background of Atacamenian culture and it’s development throughout time, till presence. Staff are trained for their positions, so that we can follow low-impact environmental rules. The lodge is built out of local natural resources; adobe brick, bamboo, wood, river stone are used following the local architectural habits and traditions.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
