Gift shop: Tiendita Arenas Del Mar is a contemporary design shop and boutique, handily placed in the reception area of the Resort. This shop is dedicated to promoting local contemporary design from Costa Rican artists and emphasizes innovative products that utilize recycled materials or refer to local culture and/or traditional craft techniques and materials. This project emerged as a response to the growing need for an outlet for young local designers to show and promote their work. It intends to become a forum space where designers, artists, tourists and design lovers can meet, share and produce new ideas and objects that reflect the contemporary life and culture of “ticos”.

Spa: Immerse yourself in luxury and enjoy our sumptuous treatments and relaxing massages while being lulled by the sounds of the sea and the breezes flowing through Las Brisas Spa. There are many interesting activities offered in the area for children, especially years 6 and older, such as butterfly gardens, guided tours on interpretive trails into the rain forest, canopy tours and boat excursions.

Disabled access: This resort has 4 rooms that are wheelchair accessible. Due to the spread out terrain, this resort is only recommended to the “adventurous” and somewhat experienced handicapped traveller.

how this holiday makes a difference
    Environment:
monkeyThe hotel uses solar heating panels coupled with super efficient energy saving auxiliary water heaters, underground electrical system, copper–silver ionization systems to clean the pool water, energy efficient bulbs, and a complex but efficient recycling program including the use of waste water treatment plant which require no leech lines, solar drying areas and low wattage high efficiency lighting to protect the fauna and the use of fossil fuels.

Only electric cars are permitted on the property to avoid air and noise pollution. The roof tiles are actually recycled plastic that are made from discarded plastic bags from the banana industry. All sheets and towels are made from 100% natural bamboo fibers, a renewable resource (and of exquisite quality).

The total construction (footprint) covers less than 25% of the land and the remaining part, which is secondary forest, will become a private nature reserve. This will act as an ecological corridor for the species of mammals that travel through this jungle. We will be planting over 7000 native species of trees and thousands of native plants in the next years.

    Community:
Employees are recruited primarily from the nearby towns and purchases made locally whenever possible and there are regular scheduled doctor visits to the site for employees to consult with. All employees are trained about sustainable tourism and must be committed to maintain the goals of sustainable tourism.

The involvement of the local community is an essential part of the lodging concept. Employees will be recruited primarily from the local area and purchases made locally whenever possible.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
