rooms, food and facilities
Le Mauricia has four categories of rooms suitable for couples, families or friends travelling as a group. Four-star quality is reflected in the bright, contemporary interiors and furnishings, both casually welcoming with soft gentle shades that are offset by splashes of colour. All rooms feature:
Standard Room: Located on the first or second floor, standard rooms offer one-bedroom accommodation with a bathroom. All are sea facing and have a large bay window opening onto a private terrace or balcony, framed by a trellis. We have 143 standard rooms. They include bathroom with shower and toilets, and a balcony.
Superior Room: The ground-level superior rooms also have one bedroom and an en-suite bathroom which is equipped with a bath and shower. The pergola-shaded terrace opens onto a small private garden that leads to the beach. We have 60 superior rooms, including bathroom with bath, shower and separate toilets, and terrace and private garden.
Apartments: Either built in a self-contained village or located in the gardens, the apartments are an ideal option for families or party of five. Each apartment features two bedrooms and two bathrooms, one of which has both a bath and shower. Some apartments have a terrace which opens onto a private walled garden - the perfect spot in which to relax in complete privacy. We have 29 apartments -1 bedroom with double bed and bathroom with bath, shower and toilets – 1 bedroom with twin beds and 1 sofa bed, bathroom with shower and toilets, and a terrace. Honeymoon Suite: The rooftop honeymoon suites have commanding views over the bay and are equipped with a private pool and outdoor shower, synonymous with privacy and exclusivity. We have 3 honeymoon suites - 1 bedroom and bathroom with bath and separate toilets, and lounge, flat screen TV, outdoor shower and private pool.
Loft: 1 loft with 1 double bedroom and bathroom with shower and toilets and 1 bedroom with twin beds and 1 sofa bed, bathroom with shower and toilets and flat screen TV.
Restaurants and bars: Open-plan restaurants with sweeping views across the bay.
Les quais Restaurant: Les Quais, Le Mauricia’s main restaurant, is set amidst roofed terraces and extended wooden decks that run the length of the slate swimming pool. The décor, enhanced by white ceilings, is evocative of a marina wharf. Modern storage cupboards and cooking stations are shaped like boat hulls and a unique feature is a stainless steel bridge that spans over the buffet areas. Behind the live cooking stations, floor-to-ceiling glass, through which you can view the kitchen, makes a strong visual statement. Antiques collected from the local seaports, such as a vintage marine lantern, add the final touches.
Le Nautic Restaurant: The minimalist white interiors of Le Nautic will appeal to those looking for a more intimate atmosphere. The teak furniture and miniature
paddles that hang on the wallsoffset the otherwise entirely white space. Built on a spilt-level and facing the sea towards the setting sun, this elegant restaurant serves fresh fish and seafood.
Le Baywatch bar: Central to the resort is the Bay Watch Bar which overlooks the sea and both swimming pools. A contemporary mix of traditional and modern, the bar features attractive Mediterranean-style pergolas. You can either relax with your feet in the sand or choose the stylish “lounge” area equipped with comfy couches.

Environment
There was great care taken by the architect from the planning stage to retain the character of the site where the hotel exists. Palm trees were not removed but replanted to retain the tropical nature of the site. There is also a policy not to build higher than the existing tallest palm tree on the property. Where possible the building materials – wood, etc is sourced locally. Aware of the need for water conservation, Beachcomber Hotels was the first company in Mauritius to invest in waste water plants. Each hotel is equipped with its own waste water plant. Those located on the Peninsula generate between 600m3 to 800 m3 of water a day, 60% of which is used to maintain the gardens and golf course. In a near future, Beachcomber Hotels could also look at BMS technology. Building Management System (BMS) is used in buildings to create a central computer controlled method of monitoring and optimising facilities such as heating, air-conditioning, lighting and security. These systems reduce energy waste as facilities are used only when needed. One of Beachcomber Hotels’ main projects is to invest in solar energy. The objective is to replace the traditional boilers by solar power to allow the hotels to save a significant amount of energy. In compliance with this, a special unit has been operational at Le Mauricia since January 2008 to convert solar energy to heat, thus ensuring the resort’s entire supply in hot water. Gradually, all other Beachcomber Hotels will also use solar energy to produce hot water. Community Beachcomber Hotels is a major employer on Mauritius providing some 3000 plus jobs in hotel group; the majority of the workforce is sourced locally. Additionally, the business has lead to the creation of employment in the supporting industries of its suppliers. The hotel staff is in the main from local population. Maintenance is handled by local company contractors. Produce is provided by local suppliers and the hotel has a small spice garden. Local artisans craftwork is sold in the hotel shops. The islands textile industry also supplies the staff uniforms. The local community is supported by the creation of long term stable employment and the opportunity to enrol in the schemes initiated by FED. In 1999, the group set up Fondation Espoir et Development (FED) to fund and support social projects. The core philosophy is to provide a platform for Non Governmental and Community Based Organisations (NGOs and CBOs) to help the underprivileged become self sufficient and be able to sustain themselves. Examples of projects are Craftsmanship - encourage artisans to create culture-based hand-made products destined to tourists. This project will aid artisans by providing appropriate training and consulting services to help the creation of micro-enterprises. PEJ – a youth employment project that gives 17-20 year olds the skills to gain employment in several fields. Training covers everything from academic basics to work ethics including reading and writing skills, sound arithmetical basics and social aptitudes. Industrial placements organised by the FED give the opportunity to the young underprivileged to gain valuable experience in the Mauritian enterprises. The Alpha Project – created specifically to provide the uneducated basic reading and writing skills. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
