special things to do and see here
Walking: We are located in a photographers & walkers paradise with access to beautiful villages and rice paddies on the door step.

Explore Treak Village on our Walk and Talk tour. Your walk and talk guide will take you through the village showing you the Cambodian way of life. The tour takes in the village, rice fields, a beautiful pagoda and the ancient Wat Athvea temple. This is a chance to meet some of the locals, capture some sensational pictures and gain an insight into life in Siem Reap behind those few tourist streets. The tour length ranges as each person is different, we recommend you allow 1.5-2 hours for the tour. While tours can be arranged at anytime of day we recommend either early in the morning or later in the afternoon.

Cycling: Bikes can be booked on advance request. There are plenty of places to cycle in the immediate area. This is an ideal location as it’s away from the heavy and dangerous traffic of the main town. The small roads that weave through villages are ideal for exploring by pedal power.

how this holiday makes a difference
Environment
We recognise as a hotel that we have impacts on the local environment and have implemented a number of initiatives to reduce our impact. We see this as an ongoing program and continually seek to improve upon what we currently do:

  • Recycling of all cans, bottles, glass, & paper
  • Composting of kitchen scraps
  • Proper treatment of waste water
  • Low energy lighting throughout the hotel
  • All air conditioners are regularly serviced and activated in room by key card access
  • Guests have the option to decline daily linen changes
  • Training program for all staff on waste reduction, environmental issues and responsible tourism
  • By end 2009 all hot water will be provided by solar power

    Community
In creating this accommodation we made a commitment to look after Cambodia and her people. We are dedicated to providing a beautiful accommodation option that helps benefit and develop the local community.

Our team of local staff are our greatest asset, and we pride ourselves on helping them develop their skills and capabilities for the future. We actively recruit from the local community with an emphasis on female employees. This includes a paid maternity leave program. We focus on providing an opportunity for entry level staff to train in other departments, and move through our organisation. We pride ourselves on being a fair pay, equal opportunity employer.

In addition to our direct hotel management practices we have also created a village enrichment program - the Treak Village Enrichment Program. This program was created in conjunction with the village chief with the mission to directly help the community where the accommodation is located.

In 2009 four key areas are being targeted.

  • The provision of Water Filters to give families access to safe water.
  • Water Wells, to improve access to water – often people are carrying water many times a day to their home.
  • Tree Grants – To provide fruit trees enabling families to supplement their income
  • Rubbish Collection – To provide a rubbish collection service within the village.

This program is funded in several ways. 7% of the accommodation's profits are donated to this program, 50% of our Treak Village Tour fee is donated to the program, and customers are able to make direct contributions to this program. We have made a long term commitment to Treak Village and are excited about working with village, assisting them to improve their environment.
  • Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
