introduction to Lanzarote self catering cottage in the Canary Islands

This luxury 40 square meter eco cottage is set in the gardens of an estate, and has been sympathetically restored. Its spacious living area can comfortable accommodate up to 4 guests and cot. The contemporary design includes split level floor, open plan living room, kitchen area and bedroom. The cottage has been tastefully styled to create a cosy cottage feel using wood & local stone flooring. There is a extra large king size double bed in the bedroom area and two double sofa beds for extra guests if needed in the lounge area.

The shower room has a walk in stone shower and free standing marble sink. It has a fully fitted kitchen and lounge area with views over to the sea, surrounding fields and mountains. The cottage has a walled private terrace with uninterrupted sea views, perfect for relaxing and catching some sunshine on the teak wood loungers, you are also able to enjoy a BBQ and enjoy some al fresco dining on your private terrace. At the cottage located at prestigious 30,000 square meter estate guests have shared use of the of the solar heated 10 meter long pool and chill out area where you can relax and entertain alike.

Pool area boasts sea and mountain views, mature gardens and a Polynesian style day bed. There is also have a large covered area where there is a second kitchen, further dining table for 8 guests and authentic Moroccan floor seating This area is spacious and has hard wood floor a perfect place to read a book or enjoy a meal.

The area was originally farming land and has two natural wells on site, there are mature exotic gardens including fruit trees such as mango, banana, guava, lime etc. (a bonus if you are here at the right season!) There is also a variety of other garden produce such as potatoes, tomatoes and basil, all of which guests are welcome to help themselves to!

Today the estate runs on wind and solar power and is a unique example of sustainable living, there are 2 wind turbines and 30 solar panels and we ask guests to be aware of and consider their energy consumption during their stay!

The estate is partly walled using stones from the land, it has a children’s play area which includes children’s play park, sand football pitch, trampoline and the resident donkey “Mollie” There is also an added bonus of farm eggs every morning from our free range hens.

Lanzarote is ideal for water sports and boasts a good range.

Windsurfing: This is available from two of the nearest points to the property either on Arrieta Beach just in front of the house or at Jameos Del Agua. Costa Teguise being just 15 Min's away has numerous places where you can hire equipment and have a great sail.

Sea Kayak: This is also available in Costa Teguise.

Diving: There are numerous places for diving on the island the nearest to the property is at Arrieta Village.

Kite Surfing: is increasing growing here and Famara beach is the main place to sail here.

Surfing: best waves are either off East Coast Arrieta beach or Punta Mujeres or West Coast at Famara. You can have lessons and hire equipment at Famara and Costa Teguise.

Sailing: For a day out sailing the prestigious Puerto Calero offers either private yacht or speed boat charters or a day out on a 80ft Catamaran.

Fishing: You can always go fishing either from the pier at Arrieta or go out on a boat from Puerto Calero.

Cycling: This area of the island is fantastic for road cycle training, great road surfaces, hills and not too busy regarding cars.

The Eco Cottage has been fully restored to a high standard and includes split level wood/local stone floor, open plan living room, kitchen area and bedroom. It consists of a 180cm wide double bed which has views from it s patio doors up to the mountains. Its living area provides a fully fitted kitchen, dining table for 4 guest and comfortable lounge seating. The walk in shower room features include; black marble sink and Moroccan mirror.

The cottage has a large terrace which has sun beds and teak garden dining set, and looks out onto the retreats gardens and boasts fantastic vies to the ocean and Arrieta village. The terrace area is protected from the wind & perfect for relaxing & sunbathing. Guest have the use of a washing machine and onsite in the pool area there is a honesty bar.

Family friendly: We have some great facilities for families. Gated Pool area, resident donkey for children to ride, children love collecting their eggs straight form the hen house for their breakfast. Also on site, trampoline, play park, football net, skate boards, swing, ping-pong, bikes, friendly farm cats, dogs etc. We also offer a babysitting service. We can also organise trips for surf, windsurf, yoga classes etc

Baby friendly: We have travel cots, high chairs, baby bath, potty, a buggie, buckets spades etc. We can provide microwave and handheld liquidizer, baby sitting service

Pet friendly: We have numerous pets on site and are flexible for guest to bring pets with them.

The Eco Garden Cottage is set in the North East coast of Lanzarote. The airport in Lanzarote is in the capital of Arrecife, The Yurt is a 30 minute drive north on well made roads. We can organise a car hire direct from the airport or a VIP pick up.
how this holiday makes a difference
Environment
The cottage has a number of green credentials including; low volt lighting, A+ class fridge/freezer, solar water heater, reclaimed wood beams, stone used on it’s renovation were supplied from its own land, use of well water, linen is changed once a week in order to save water.

Electricity is supplied from natural resources and runs "Off the National Grid" and gives guests the opportunity to experience firsthand, living with solar panels and wind turbines and using the latest renewable energy systems. It has been installed the most up to date energy systems on offer, and they work very efficiently. The system in is the largest on Lanzarote and runs on a 48 volt system and has no problem powering the 4 dwellings on site. Other green credentials include use of grey water, LED lighting, solar pool heating, use of well water for pool, A+ class fridge, solar water heater, organic fruit and veg and within walking/cycling distance to amenities.

Other environmental practices we follow:
  • Waste reduction - We encourage recycling and have bins locally. Any organic waste can be given to our chickens.
  • Conserving water - We ask client to be use water sparingly. We use our own well water which is used for the swimming pool, we also use our grey water on our palm trees.
  • Conserving electricity – We use only Wind turbines and solar panels
  • Encouraging wildlife - We have planted many native trees and bushes to encourage birds.
  • Organic gardening practices - The retreat has a number of fruit trees and plants such as tomatoes, potatoes, spinach, basil strawberries etc..
  • Building materials - the entire retreat has been built using stone from the 30,000 meter estate.
  • The well and water tanks which are on the land and originally used for irrigating the farm land have been fully restored.
  • Measures to educate staff & guests about our environmental practices - We educate guests/staff and local schools on the Eco energy system provided.
  • Office practices - We have low energy lighting, and reuse paper.

    Community
    Local stone and trades men have helped bring the retreat to a beautifully finished paradise. We offer excursions for local schools to visit the retreat and see the effectiveness of the solar/wind system.

    We promote rural tourism by encouraging guests to eat out locally and use local amenities such as shops, sports facilities etc. We also encourage them to buy local products. We provided full information on local restaurants, activities and farmers markets.
