introduction to Tipi holidays in Spain
We overlook the picturesque mountains and forests of the surrounding area and are situated within an attractive courtyard.
Our guests can experience traditional tipi living in one of our two beautifully crafted and fully equipped tipis and enjoy an outdoor camping experience with a dash of luxury. Each tipi has a double luxury camp bed with feather duvet and a private shower room within the cave complex complete with towels. Or alternatively, experience living in a cave dwelling, complete with en-suite shower room, veranda and a woodburner for the chilly winter evenings. Living within an earth structure keeps the rooms ambient all year round so there is no need for air conditioning.
Our water is heated using a solar powered system, reducing our need for conventional fuels and only biodegradable products can be used on the site as the wastewater is then used to water the trees and flowers in the courtyard conserving precious supplies of water.
Free range eggs and other local produce can be bought on site. Our guests can make their own meals using the outside kitchen facilities or BBQ. We also offer a solar powered oven.
We provide advice on activities in the area which allow our guests to appreciate the beautiful countryside of the surrounding area known as the 'Lake District of Spain'. Or for something less energetic our guests can simply relax with a good book or take a dip in our above ground freshwater pool.

Environment:
The environment is of utmost importance and is the foundation for our eco-friendly holiday offering, whether our guests choose to experience traditional cave living in our charming cave dwelling studio or choose to stay in one of our beautifully crafted North American tipis, an outdoor living experience with a dash of luxury - each of our tipis has its own private shower room complete with towels. Both the cave dwelling and tipis have been furnished using locally made rugs and other interior furnishings. The site has been built around a previously derelict cave building, which has been sympathetically reformed to preserve many of its original features, helping to ensure that the traditional cave living in this area of Spain is preserved. Our water is heated by solar power to reduce our consumption of non-renewable fuels and only biodegradable products are used on the site (these are provided for our guests) as the waste water is then used to water the flowers and trees on the courtyard. We also offer our guests an environmentally friendly airport pickup in our jeep which is run on biofuels instead of diesel. We encourage our guests to take advantage of the many local activities in the area, only a short distance away are attractions such as the beautiful Lake Negratin, horse riding through the stunning landscape, walking, bird watching and trips to the national parks nearby. Skiing is available in the winter months in the Sierra Nevada about 1.5 hours drive away. We also have bicycles available to rent so our guests can explore the area in an eco-friendly way. Community: Our site is set within our spacious courtyard within the rugged landscape of inland Andalucía. We have locally sourced and fair trade products for our guests to buy on-site to cook their own meals on the barbecue or in the solar powered oven. Our guests can enjoy a rugged, unspoiled landscape and appreciate the traditional rural way of life at the same time as supporting the local economy. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
