The Cayman Islands Department of Tourism (CIDOT) is committed to being a leader in sustainable tourism initiatives and best practices throughout its operations in the Grand Cayman and International offices. CIDOT commits to adopting sound environmental management practices in its marketing and product development activities in the promotion of the Cayman Islands as a sustainable tourism destination.

Specifically CIDOT commits to:

  • Promoting the action items of the National Tourism Plan (NTMP) 2009 which encourage and support the principles sustaining the quality of the environmental product and managing visitor impacts.
  • Complying with all applicable laws.
  • Advancing environmental stewardship by contributing to efficient use of resources, and management of solid waste and hazardous materials.
  • Continually reviewing our operations to ensure that our environmental performance is maintained and improved.
  • Where practical minimize environmental impacts our projects and activities can have on natural resources, the physical environment and local communities.
  • Engaging employees, thereby tapping into a larger pool of human knowledge, human resources and creativity.
  • Engaging partners, for example, Tourism Attractions Board, to adopt environmental best practices to improve their environmental performance.
  • Adopting best practices that may lead to improved environmental performance and implement those that are economically feasible.
  • Where practicable, contractually bind contractors to CIDOT environmental standards.
  • Promoting environmental awareness among our employees, suppliers and stakeholders, through communication.
  • Collaborating with other government departments, agencies and offices in the design and delivery of its environmental management programs.
