TO ENTER, simply nominate a tourism-related organisation, project or individual that benefits a local community and is eco-friendly. Include a brief description explaining your choice, plus the project’s or person's contact details.
You do not have to put forward a nomination for every category — you can simply stick to one category, or put forward nominations for a selection.
Nominations, with your name, address and phone number, can be sent by e-mail to awards@responsibletravel.com or by letter or postcard to responsibletravel.com, Pavilion House, 6 Old Steine, Brighton, East Sussex BN1 1EJ. You can also enter via the website www.responsibletravel.com/awards (where details of previous winners can be found) or via The Times website www.timesonline.co.uk/greentravel
Nominations must be received by Monday, August 14, 2006. Entrants who have named one of the 13 winning organisations will go forward to the prize draw for two stunning holidays. First prize will be an Antarctic Explorer 10 night voyage for 2 people (main deck cabin x2 berth) in December 2007. The prize includes flights from the UK to Ushuaia via Buenos Aires, and will include pre and post voyage accommodation. Travel insurance is mandatory but not included; it can be purchased from Peregrine. The second prize is two nights’ B&B, based on two sharing, at the Evergreen Bed and Breakfast in Inverfarigaig, Scotland; both offers are subject to availability and unforeseen eventualities.
Winners will be announced in The Times on Saturday, November 11, 2006, and must book their holidays by December 31, 2006. No purchase necessary.
Competition open to UK residents aged 18 or over except employees of News International, Peregrine Adventures, The Evergreen Bed and Breakfast or associated companies and businesses.
All entries are subject to full terms and conditions see www.timesonline.co.uk/giveaways
How the Awards are judged
1. Tourism ventures are nominated by members of the public.
2. Due to the very significant number of nominations, typically only 20 nominees per category go through to the under consideration stage. Nominees under consideration are then sent a detailed questionnaire and required to provide references.
3. Independent of the references, opinions are solicited from a range of informed individuals relevant to each country.
4. A panel of judges meet at the Royal Geographical Society for a full day to debate and make a decision on the winners.
5. The headline sponsor, First Choice Holidays PLC, is not represented on the judging panel which means that travel companies owned by First Choice are eligible for entry.
6. Sponsors of Awards categories are not eligible for entry.
