Our charity of the quarter - The Woodland Trust
The Woodland Trust Trees and forests are crucial to life. They stabilise the soil, generate oxygen, store carbon, play host to a spectacular variety of wildlife, provide us with raw materials and inspire our imaginations. The Woodland Trust is the UK’s leading woodland conservation charity; protecting ancient woodland, restoring and improving the biodiversity of woods, creating new native woodland, and increasing people’s understanding and enjoyment of woodland.
We care for over 1,000 sites throughout the UK and are keen to engage people in our activities. All our woods are freely open to the public and we run a programme of events including tree planting and woodland walks.
Evidence shows how important woods and trees are to our quality of life. They improve our health, reduce our stress, improve our air quality, provide shade, encourage learning and recreation, and above all are fun places to be.
But our natural environment is under threat and the Trust sees its role as more than simply creating and protecting woodland – we have to motivate society, particularly young people, to care for it now and well into the future.
Tree for All is an ambitious tree planting campaign enthusing a whole generation to take a practical first step towards shaping a positive future for our society. We aim to plant 12 million trees, one for every child in the UK and with the active involvement of 1 million children, make tree planting part of growing up. Experience has shown that the act of planting a tree is a powerful motivator for a life long respect for the natural environment.
Donations received from holiday bookings made with Responsible Travel currently total £2000 and will enable more children to plant trees as part of the Trust’s campaign Tree for All.
