Lindi Maseme, LinSy Paradise, Afriportico Accommodation Group
"In most of our b&bs the owners will tell you stories about our history, about how we lived, how we grew up."

Like any world-class tourist destination, KwaZulu-Natal has a full range of accommodation options from luxury five-star hotels in the major cities to b&b accommodation and homestead stays with local Zulu families in the rural areas. As a top-class safari destination, the province also has many high quality bush camps in all the major parks and reserves. The province also offers a range of five-star lodge and spa accommodation with many of the best in the Midlands and Battlefields regions.

A range of boutique hotels, restaurants, b&bs and spas with indigenous owners have also recently been launched under the Afriportico brand offering visitors an insight into local culture and cuisine in a high quality environment. The brand is being developed in association with the Africa Unite Tourism Empowerment Network which aims to promote economic development of black-owned tourism enterprises.

Homestead stays with local Zulu families are becoming increasingly popular. Here visitors can experience a traditional homestead or ‘Umuzi’ staying with a Zulu family in a village environment for a night or more. The package will often include displays of traditional dancing as well as guided visits to local schools, shops and village communities.

Alastair Rankin, Rocktail Beach Camp
"Rocktail Beach Camp is unique. Our chalets are low-impact three and four star canvas structures high in the forest canopy and we are one of the Top Ten dive sites in the world."
