Near Amman you’ll savour the magical atmosphere of Roman Jerash, before heading to the lowest point on Earth to float in the saline waters of the Dead Sea. Pausing at Kerak – a key staging post for the Crusaders – you head into Dana Nature Reserve.
Some of the most spectacular desert scenery in the world is found in the south of Jordan at Wadi Rum, a place of dramatic beauty which provides an ideal environment for trekking. Millennia of erosion have formed wonderful mountains (known as jebels) rising out of the desert sands, and we walk from the valley bottom to jebel tops over exciting terrain.
Jordan is an ideal destination for a one-week break. It includes the spectacular 'Rose-red city' of Petra and one of the best preserved Roman cities in the Middle East, Jerash. It is also home to some fabulous scenery in the desert at Wadi Rum, where we take a 4WD excursion into the more remote regions and camp out like the Bedouin.
