introduction to Morocco holiday, desert & gorges, tailormade
Morocco is a fantastically diverse country. In this short trip you will be able to experience the hustle and bustle of the Imperial Cities, the spectacular scenery of the mountains and gorges and the silence of the desert.
Start your trip in Marrakech, Morocco’s most captivating city, where you can stay in a luxurious riad in the heart of the city. From here, it is a scenic drive across the Atlas Mountains to the palm-shrouded oasis of Skoura where you can stay in an authentic 17th century Kasbah. Using Skoura as a base, you can explore the spectacular scenery and kasbahs of the Dades Valley before driving along the fertile Draa Valley to the town of Zagora.
Here, a famous sign points toward Timbuktu, 52 days away by camel, and you can spend a night in the desert under canvas experiencing traditional Berber hospitality. A 4x4 vehicle will take you off the beaten track on the rough back roads over the mountains via the famous Kasbahs of Ait Benhaddou and return you to Marrakech.
This 9 day tailor made trip uses air conditioned vehicles and experienced local drivers, with bilingual local guides in Marrakech and the desert.

how this holiday makes a difference
|
Wherever possible, we work with locally owned accommodation such as the Riad Kniza in Marrakech, the Kasbah ben Moro in Skoura and the Fibule du Draa in Zagora. We also use local guides, drivers and vehicles throughout. This ensures that your money stays with the country and supports the local community. Our trips to Morocco are private departures, thereby enabling a more intimate exploration of the country whilst minimising the impact on the environment and culture.
We were voted most responsible tour operator by UK NGO Tourism Concern. On average 75% of the cost of your trip with us - excluding flights - remains in the destination. Flights are automatically carbon offset through The Travel Forest, which plants 10 indigenous trees on your behalf (currently in northern Tanzania). Whilst the primary motivation for planting the trees is to offset carbon emissions, the project also works as a poverty alleviation and environmental improvement scheme. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
