the amazing things you'll be doing
Experience the majestic beauty of Alaska as we immerse ourselves in a land of crystal glaciers, endless coastline, and abounding wildlife. Exploring this rugged wilderness by land, air and water, we bike along lakes, hike through meadows, raft Class III-IV whitewater, sea kayak the majestic Prince William Sound, and fly into the very heart of Wrangell St. Elias National Park. Sample the spirit of adventure that defines the Alaskan experience.
day-by-day itinerary
| Day 1-2: | Chugach Mountains-Sheep Mountain. Starting in Anchorage, we begin our adventure with a scenic bike ride along the turquoise-colored shores of Eklutna Lake. The next day we hike into a fascinating wilderness of peaks, tundra, alpine valleys, and clear mountain streams. That afternoon we paddle the exciting glacier-fed Matanuska River. |
| Day 3-4: | Kennicott-Wrangell St. Elias. We board a scenic flight to Kennicott, set in the heart of Wrangell St. Elias National Park, recently recognized as a World Heritage Site for its extraordinary beauty. We then explore a ghost town and, if you choose, don crampons and an ice axe to learn the basics of ice climbing under the care of our expert instructors. Prefer to hike? Join us on one of Wrangell St. Elias' classic trails. |
| Day 5-6: | Valdez-Prince William Sound. We transfer along the unbelievably dramatic Richardson Highway to Valdez, "Alaska's Little Switzerland." After a short but scenic hike along the rim of Keystone Canyon, we sea kayak the well-protected fjords and glaciers of Prince William Sound, one of Alaska's great natural preserves. |
| Day 7: | Girdwood. Embark on a ferry ride across Prince William Sound, where whales, otters, and seals frolic among floating icebergs. After a rainforest hike in Winner Creek Gorge and a farewell dinner in Girdwood, we conclude in Anchorage. |

|
As the regional expert for more than 15 years, we are the most trusted and experienced active travel company offering eco-friendly multi-sport and hiking vacations throughout the Americas. Since we were founded in 1988, we have worked hard to support environmental causes close to both our homes and their hearts. Their primary focus is to lessen their impact and reduce, reuse and recycle - to leave areas in better condition than when they found them.
They know that their adventures will only be possible if they work to preserve the places they love. That's why we donate 5% of their profits to grassroots groups who are passionately devoted to protecting the natural world. We also help to protect fragile ecosystems by keeping group sizes limited to 4-13 participants maximum, so that unsustainable levels of visitation are not reached. And they educate their guests about the best ways to minimize their individual impacts and foster in them an environmental awareness. In addition, they've lessened their impact significantly through the utilization of Wind Energy. They're also striving to become a waste-free, paperless company, utilizing processed, chlorine-free post-consumer recycled paper, tree-free paper, and soy-based inks whenever possible for printing our marketing materials. We always utilize local guides and businesses as well as recycled and locally produced products in each of the regions in which they operate. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
