the amazing things you'll be doing
Situated along the southeastern slopes of the towering Jade Dragon Snow Mountain (5500 meters) and surrounded by mountains on all sides, the diamond-shaped basin of Lashihai Watershed is a spectacular setting for exploring the intricate relationship between the abundant natural resources of this land and the people who live off it. At an elevation of 2500 meters, Lashihai (Lashi Lake) is the largest highland lake in Lijiang County, and an important habitat for over 57 species of migratory birds. During the winter months, the lake is home to tens of thousands of migratory birds, including protected species such as the black-necked crane, whooper swan and black stork.

Lashihai is also home to a population of over 20,000 Naxi and Yi people living traditional rural lifestyles and dependent upon the watershed's resources for their livelihood. Lashihai Ecotourism Company is a community-based green tourism enterprise. By taking our tours, you will: Learn about Lashihai's natural and cultural history in a small group setting (2 to 10 people per group) Receive personal and friendly service from our professionally trained local Naxi and Yi guides Contribute to the support of nature conservation, cultural heritage protection and community development in the Lashihai Watershed
travellers' tales
It was the highlight of a trip to China... The scenery can be described as no less than stunning, the people who we stayed with and walked amongst were friendly, curious, and clear hard-working (making us on our holiday feel very privileged).  (more)

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
