the amazing things you'll be doing
This short trip takes in the best of Jordan and Egypt. From the hidden city of Petra, carved out of red rock two thousand years ago, to the Pyramids of Giza, created three thousand years before that, this is a trip that will give you an amazing introduction to the sights of the Middle East.

Immerse yourself in history, and wonder at the natural marvels of this area. We explore the desert area of Wadi Rum, made famous by Lawrence of Arabia, and have a full day to snorkel amongst the reefs of the Red Sea.

Throughout Jordan and Egypt we use small local hotels and hostels, we often travel by public buses and trains and employ many local guides and representatives. At Wadi Rum, we stay in a Bedouin camp before joining our local Bedouin guides, for a camel trek in the desert.

travellers' tales
The most exciting part of the holiday was the knowledge that something new and interesting was going to happen or would be seen each day.  (more)
small group adventure holiday
Typically you will be sharing your experiences with between 4-20 like minded travellers (depending on the trip, operator and how many others are booked on the trip) and you'll have a group leader with you. Whether you are travelling alone or with friends its good value, and a great way to meet new people! While itineraries are pre-planned there is some flexibility and you'll have plenty of privacy. This trip will appeal to travellers of all ages who enjoy meeting new people as well as seeing new places.

how this holiday makes a difference
Throughout Jordan and Egypt we use small local hotels and hostels, we often travel by public buses and trains and employ many local guides and representatives. We respect the local culture at all times: going to a secluded and approved bathing spot before stripping down to our bathers to float in the dead sea and ensuring that we dress appropriately at religious sites and respect any wishes for silent visits.

In Amman, our tour leaders take travellers away from the main tourist areas, leaving them to shop in the traditional souqs in their free time. At Wadi Rum, we stay in a Bedouin camp before joining our local Bedouin guides, with whom we have a long standing relationship, for a camel trek in the desert.

We also have long term relationships with some of the best local Egyptologists whose services are included at every ancient site on all Egypt trips. This provides long term employment (even during lulls in tourism) and fair wages. We make sure that we aren't tempted to climb the pyramids like many other tourists do, as we believe in supporting the preservation of these ancient sites.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
