the amazing things you'll be doing
The Marine Discovery Centre in is an educational facility which assists people of all ages to discover the wonders of southern Australia's marine environment. Facilities include a visitor's aquarium, student laboratory, classroom, a resource room and an educational gift shop. The Centre is situated in the seaside township of Queenscliff, approximately one and a half hours drive from Melbourne in the state of Victoria, Australia. The term edu-action best describes this project - participants are actively involved in learning about the coast. Instead of sitting in a classroom and talking about coastal processes and human impact, you get to feel the salt spray and sand, to see sand dunes and cliffs but best of all, actively participate in looking after damaged dunes. Participants finish the day feeling proud of their achievements.

how this holiday makes a difference
|
Educational research and our own experience has shown that people who participate in the revegetation program are more likely to want to look after our coast and not participate in activities that are likely to cause further damage to the dunes.
The long-term benefits of the program are responsible users of the coast. Ultimately the program aims to change the long-term behaviours of the participants. Through taking action for the coast, behaviours and attitudes that are consistent with long term conservation of the coast can be developed. The Centre received highly commended in the category of environmental experience the prestigious British Airways Tourism for Tomorrow awards. By taking part in any of our programs you will experience the wonders of the marine environment and you will be directly supporting the work of the Marine Discovery Centre. We look forward to seeing you here soon. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
