day-by-day itinerary
| Day 1-2: | Cairo. The mayhem of Cairo, with its eclectic mix of ancient and modern, is a great place to start our trip. It is an extraordinary feeling to behold the nearby Pyramids and Sphinx for the first time. |
| Day 3-4: | Aswan. Nestled between the desert and the Nile, Aswan is an exotic gateway to the rest of Africa. Visit a local Nubian village for a night of food, music and dance. A side trip to Abu Simbel is possible. |
| Day 5-6: | Felucca. Sit back and take in rural Egyptian life while drifting down the Nile in a felucca. At night we slumber aboard under the millions of stars that blanket the sky. |
| Day 7-9: | Luxor. A donkey ride takes us to the ancient hieroglyphs and royal tombs of the Valley of the Kings. We also visit the spectacular temple complex of Karnak. |
| Day 10: | Cairo. Back in the capital, enjoy a guided walk through Islamic Cairo and bargain up a storm in the labyrinthine bazaar Khan al-Khalili, which sells almost everything under the sun. |
| Day 11-12: | Nuweiba. Catch a ferry across to the Sinai region, a land where desert terrain feeds into palm-lined beaches. There is time to snorkel and dive breathtaking coral reefs and watch the mountains of Saudi Arabia light up at sunset. |
| Day 13: | Mt Sinai. Climb to the top of Mt Sinai for panoramic desert views and visit the legendary St Katherine's Monastery. Cross the Sinai and Suez Canal on our return to Cairo. |
| Day 14-15: | Cairo. Back in the capital, enjoy a guided walk through Islamic Cairo and bargain up a storm in the labyrinthine bazaar Khan al-Khalili, which sells everything under the sun - well almost. |

how this holiday makes a difference
|
Egypt is an extraordinary country and exploring it will get you travellers there with the locals, learning about their way of life and supporting as many local communities as possible. In true Intrepid style most of the accommodation is in locally owned, small guesthouses. Local transport is the main mode of transport, allowing immersion into Egyptian daily life and interaction with local people.
The itinerary includes a boat trip on the Nile River in a traditional felucca. This supports an ancient mode of transport as well as supporting the Nubian crew in their way of life. There's time for exploring temples along the way and one night is spent camping under the stars - perfect for appreciating the incredible Egyptian environment. In Luxor the group visits the Brooke Hospital for Animals and the Fair Trade Centre. Here travellers can purchase goods that encourage the maintenance of traditional crafts and support local communities. In the Sinai area the group fully gets into appreciating the stunning natural environment with opportunities for snorkelling the Red Sea and beach-relaxing. One night the group visits a tribal village in the mountains for a traditional Bedouin dinner - a great experience away from the touristy parts. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've lead the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
