the amazing things you'll be doing
A trip for the over 50s. The ten-day itinerary begins in Juneau and continues south through the narrow inlets of the Southeast Alaskan archipelago to Petersburg. The M/V Catalyst can venture deeper into Alaskan waters than most conventional cruise ships, giving all aboard the opportunity to launch kayaks into narrow fjords and witness nature in complete solitude.
At sea, humpback and orca whales, porpoises and sea lions are often seen. While hiking in the rainforest and on glacial moraines, we watch for grizzly bears and mountain goats.
Aboard the Catalyst, the dynamics between passengers and crew is more intimate than on cruise ships, adding considerably to the quality of the adventure.
All this during the long summer days of the far north makes for a superb journey aboard a comfortable ship. Add the possibility of stellar Northern Lights and you have a quintessential natural experience sailing in the Alaskan fjords.
Accommodation:Travel on the classic M/V Catalyst. Comfortable cabins, each with its own porthole. There are 2 shared heads (washrooms) on board. There are many "out of the way" spaces to relax. Hotel accommodations with private bathrooms in Juneau and Petersburg.

a trip for the over 50's
This is a 'small group adventure' for the over 50's. Typically you will be sharing your experiences with a dozen or so like minded travellers which is a great way to meet new people! Most of our adventures take you to paradise on smooth roads and comfy beds. However, some of our adventures are more challenging. We use comfortable, well-located accommodations with private washroom facilities. how this holiday makes a difference
|
Forget about 1500 passenger cruise ships - this is a 10 passenger classicvoyage. With this ship, nature and wildlife come alive. Passengers can getup close and use the sea kayaks on board for a more personal, intimatelook at the wonders of the northwest coast.
Group size is an important feature of sustainable tourism. Larger groups can inundate small communities and trample sensitive environments. Traveling on a small ship, the impact is minimized and the crew areleaders in sensitive eco-travel and education. We visit important natural areas sensitively. By showing interest in these sites and by working with the local communities in the vicinity, we help to demonstrate that sensitive tourism can provide a real alternative to natural resource depletion, thus helping to protect these sensitive areas. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
