the amazing things you'll be doing
XCARET is located in a tropical forest with very rich flora and fauna. We have worked very hard to study and help the local species and to teach our visitors about them. We have created the attractions of the park around this richness. With beaches, lagoons and a tropical jungle the park offers a vast and exciting array of activities. Nothing beats a guided tour to get to know the park's attractions. Our tour gets you participating hands on in a variety of interactive activities with plants and animals. Multiple departures daily; each tour is limited to 25 people.
The Tropical Jungle Path is a journey through the heart of the jungle. In this area most of the regional trees and palms of the Yucatan Peninsula grow naturally.
In the middle, we have created an edible mushroom farm and an Orchid Farm. We have research and reproduction of this unique flowers and our collection has all of the species existing in the Peninsula (109), four of which we discovered.
Our butterfly farm intensively reproduces 20 native species and studies 51 native species. Our visitors witness all the process from the egg to the adult butterfly and understand the importance of the host plants in the larvae stage. We have presented several papers in national entomologists congresses obtaining recognition for a reforestation of host plants project and the study of the Monarch population in the Yucatan Peninsula.
Get a close-up look to three of the 7 species found in Mexico. You'll have the opportunity to see turtles at every stage of their lives, from tiny newborns to huge adults swimming around in our natural tanks. We protect an average of 200,000 baby turtles each year. We have actively participated in their protection and preservation since 1996 through research coordinated with government institutions, as well as national and international investigation centres.
The Wild Bird Breeding Aviary is a preservation and reproduction facility housing more than 30 regional species. Several are endangered. Outstanding protection programs are on red macaws and pink flamingos (with a protection program in the most important nesting area in North America).
Explore the undersea world without getting wet. The Reef Aquarium is an ambitious and unique project. We reproduce entire reef ecosystems in tanks outside the ocean. Well composed aquariums illustrate the various types of reefs and their importance, along with hard-to-believe fish and aquatic life forms. It allows our visitors to understand the importance of light and current in the life on a reef and the importance of the corals. There's even a petting zoo where you can touch residents of the reefs.
Certified open water divers will enjoy diving Barracuda Reef or the sunken wreck "Mama Viņa". Not certified? If you've ever thought of learning to dive, there's nothing like the reefs waiting for you just offshore. Join our professional dive masters for a resort course and take the plunge. Great equipment, clear Caribbean water and a very interesting dive site are waiting for you.

XCARET is a sustainable tourist development known for rationally using all its resources maintaining its cultural essence and ecosystems. That is the way we work in order to satisfy the financial, social and aesthetic needs of the region. In order to achieve these principles, it is necessary to establish a respect for the environment and the ecosystems, for history and culture and for the aspirations of the local communities and our visitors.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
