the amazing things you'll be doing
This is a land of imposing mountains, tumbling rivers, low coastal bluffs and long sandy beaches. Restored Great Houses rub shoulders with Caribbean shacks and the rhythms of Jamaica's huge musical heritage are everywhere. Treasure Beach is a delightfully friendly and undeveloped section of the south coast with local Great Houses, nature safaris, and the Appletons rum distillery to explore or a wonderfully quiet strip of sandy beach to relax on. A great place to escape the crowds.
The Blue Mountains (left) dominate the eastern half of Jamaica, rising to 7402 feet at Blue Mountain Peak. This is where the famous Blue Mountain coffee is produced and you can find out all about the process of transforming the berry to a roasted bean. It's also one of the best hiking areas in Jamaica and you have a choice of luxury mountain top spa or overgrown eco-lodge to stride out from.
Port Antonio is another small, welcoming Jamaican town in a little-visited corner of the island. Hiking, rafting, waterfalls, bird-watching and botany are the chief attractions with tiny coves, golden beaches and 'bottomless' lagoons adding a little coastal variety. Negril is one of the island's most relaxed beach resorts. Our preferred choice of accommodation is the colourful cottages that perch on the coral-fringed cliffs, away from the bustle of the main beach, with uninterrupted views of the Caribbean sea.
The Oracabessa and Ocho Rios area of the north coast is host to the famous Dunn's River Falls and Fern Gully. Ian Fleming and Noel Coward both owned homes at Oracabessa. Coward's former residence, 'Firefly', commands some of the best views in Jamaica. You can actually stay at Fleming's 'Goldeneye' which is one of the Caribbean's most exclusive and comfortable small hotels.
The Itinerary below is and example of what you can do, ecape the crowds on this two-centre trip visiting Jamaica's most scenic regions. From Port Antonio you can explore sandy coves and hike or raft along the Rio Grande Valley. Treasure Beach is a beautiful stretch of coast.

best time to go
The dry season is from November to the end of April. May can often be a good time to go as it is the end of the season and much quieter but it is very hot and humid. The rainy season starts at the beginning of June through to October. It does not rain all day but often clouds over at lunchtime and there are downpours in the afternoon. There is a risk of hurricane during August, September and October in the Caribbean and the Caribbean coasts of Central America. Business must add value to the economy and the society to make a positive contribution. We have taken a formal approach to ensure that good environmental practices are identified and monitored through our accreditation with Green Globe 21. This hotel actively supports the care and conservation of the Portland area and encourages visitors to enjoy the natural beauty in an environmentally friendly manner.
Benefitting the local community
Development should support the rural economy and seek a wide spread to ensure economic and other benefits for the host community. Our hotel favours homegrown produce and uses only local, seasonal produce. We seek to provide secure, stable and meaningful employment for people of our community. At our hotel we foster good communications with the local community in order to be a good neighbour and help improve the local environment. We encourage regular interaction with environmental organisations and the tourism industry. We promote visitor awareness and considerate behaviour.
Conservation and the environment
As an ecolodge this hotel in Port Antonio preserves its natural surroundings in order to maintain the habitat of native flora and fauna. Wherever possible we try and improve. We seek to reduce consumption of energy and natural resources as far as possible by careful housekeeping and implementation of the state-of-art technology. We promote an active policy of waste avoidance.
We minimise, re-use and recycle waste and use recycled items wherever possible. We dispose of all our waste through safe and responsible methods. We use naturally based, close-to-source products, avoiding those that are scarce or under threat. We do not buy individually packaged, single use, disposable items".
