the amazing things you'll be doing
The word Urihi is used by the Yanomani Indians and it means "our place- our land". This trip takes place mainly at a small lodge about 3hrs by boat from the main city of Manaus capital of the Amazonas state.

After a couple of days in Manaus travellers will take a long trip via boat and/or motor vehicle; depending on the time of the year when the waters reach different levels of height.

The lodge is built on stilts; every hut is made from local materials respecting the surrounding environment while seeing that negative impact is kept to a minimum.

There will be daily trips via boat or canoe to locations inside the forest or to many of the Amazon River tributaries. It will be during these trips that wildlife will be viewed and catalogued. The lodge has been working with the local community by developing a sustainable alliance and a sense of conservation for the fauna, flora and the land.Travellers will be in close contact with many challenges found in living in the forest and also about the customs and fragility of its habitants. We encourage every participant to bring along a curious and inquisitive eye and to have an open mind towards the many issues and problems this region is facing.
day-by-day itinerary
Day 1:Arrive city of Manaus- transfer to guesthouse…activities for the day will vary depending on arrival time. Usually travellers need some time to recoup from jetlag and to adjust to local climate.
Day 2:Manaus – A day visiting the city ‘s main locations: market, museums, Opera House, etc.
Day 3-6:AM early departure to Jungle lodge. Arrival at mid-day followed by lunch and description of activities to come for the following days.
Day 7:AM departure to Manaus via boat followed by transfer to airport.
Don't leave it too late!
Please note that not many airlines fly to Brazil and flights can be expensive (and difficult to find) if you leave it too late to book. We recommend that flights are booked at least 3 months prior to departure. For holidays and Carnaval you'll need to plan even further in advance. The longer you leave it, the more expensive it'll be.

tailor made holiday
This trip can be tailormade to create a unique holiday for your individual requirements by travel experts with intimate knowledge of the destination. It is a more luxurious trip that will suit those who enjoy immersing themselves in new cultures and environments before relaxing in comfort in some of the best and most characterful local accommodation! Quality and value are the hallmark of these trips.
how this holiday makes a difference
The Urihi trip takes place in the Juma Lake about 100km from Manaus city.

The local community once suffering from extreme poverty and lack of economic alternative was asked by the land/lodge owners to cooperate in the conservation and maintenance of the area.In return local residents would remain living in the land and produce some of the items consumed at the lodge. Local residents are trained and given a chance to work closely with the lodge as guides or to assist guides and travellers during trekking in the forest.

This lodge has welcomed many of the ideas we requested to be implemented and/or developed, i.e.: A plan for a bird observatory and an animal rescue location is on its way. Together are insuring a sustainable source of income for the locals and developing a sense of care for their "home" while preserving the environment.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
