introduction to Egypt adventure holiday

Revel in a taste of Egypt's history, beauty and colour on this short but action-packed trip along the longest river in the world. Cruise the Nile on a felucca, discover the largest and most impressive Pharaonic temples, chat with interesting locals and live it up a little in this country of deserts, bazaars, monuments and good old-fashioned adventures.
day-by-day itinerary
Days 1-2:Cairo. Welcome to a city like no other. Throw yourself into Cairo's chaos, colour and culture with a trip to Khan al-Khalili, Egypt's most famous bazaar. For a change of pace, climb aboard a camel and visit the impressive Sphinx and Pyramids of Giza for those iconic sand-hued vistas. Take time to visit the fascinating Egyptian Museum, home to more than 120,000 antiquities and relics. Wander past the priceless treasures in the huge maze of rooms.
Days 3-5:Aswan/Nile Felucca. Experience a slice of Nile culture first hand, with a boat trip and dinner with a Nubian family. There is also time for an optional day trip to the gateway to ancient Egypt, the remote temples of Abu Simbel. Later, set sail down the Nile on a magical overnight felucca journey, sleeping on deck under the starry sky.
Days 6-7:Luxor. Known as Thebes to the ancient Egyptians, Luxor conceals amazing treasures. Take a donkey ride to the Valley of the Kings and visit three of the best-preserved pharaonic tombs. Once known as the Place of Truth, the Valley of the Kings holds more than 60 burial chambers. Enjoy some tasty traditional home cooking for lunch and wander through the spectacular temples of Karnak.
Day 8:Cairo. An early-morning return to Egypt's pulsating heart heralds the end of this Egyptian adventure. For those with extra time, be sure to roam through the walled citadel for wonderful views over the busy streets, pick up some exotic trinkets at one of the many markets or escape the hazy chaos of the inner city with a final promenade along the banks of the Nile.

how this holiday makes a difference
Egypt is an extraordinary country and exploring it will get you travellers there with the locals, learning about their way of life and supporting as many local communities as possible. Most of the accommodation is in locally owned, small guesthouses. Local group leaders provide a perspective on life in Egypt and local guides are used at major sites.

The itinerary includes a boat trip on the Nile River in a traditional felucca. This supports an ancient mode of transport as well as supporting the Nubian crew in their way of life. The trip also includes a visit to a Nubian village where we share a traditional meal. Travellers can see local women baking sunburnt bread in the same way their great grandmothers would have and listen to men play traditional music.

Travellers visit Animal Care in Egypt (ACE) in Luxor, an organisation promoting the care of all animals from dogs to donkeys. ACE provides veterinary services as well as teaching local animal owners how to care for their animals to give them a longer, healthier life. Travellers are encouraged to donate to the charity so they can continue their work and education.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
