traveller reviews for Family holiday to China

Had a great time thank you. Especially impressed with Trish who worked tirelessly and enthusiastically throughout - she made the holiday, great with parents and kids alike.  (more)
small group family holiday
This is a 'small group family adventure' - typically you will join several other families and travel in a group of approx. 16 people. The trips are great value and a great way for you and your children to meet new people! While itineraries are pre-planned there is some flexibility and you'll have plenty of time to yourselves. Most adventure kids tend to be aged between 7 and 15, but some are younger (minimum age 6) and some older (perhaps travelling as part of a larger family group). Please check with the operator to confirm the minimum age for this trip.
highly commended
This tourism business was Highly Commended in our 2007 Virgin Holidays Responsible Tourism Awards - the largest awards of their kind in the world, and organised by responsibletravel.com in association with The Times, World Travel Market and Geographical Magazine, of the Royal Geographical Society.

Since 2004, the Awards has recognised individuals, companies and organisations in travel making a big commitment to the culture and economies of local communities and helping to conserve biodiversity.
how this holiday makes a difference
Who better to lead the way in responsible travel than children? Curious without being intrusive, children bring new ideas, far fewer demands and no preconceptions to off the beaten track destinations. This trip immerses families in China's completely unique culture with a blend of famous sites and off the beaten track experiences. China offers many communication challenges but children can often break down these barriers for the whole family.

We employ many local guides and representatives and always encourage families to eat in local (tried and tested) restaurants. In Chengdu we visit the panda research centre where entrance fees are ploughed back into the preservation of these endangered animals. The trip includes a few days in Shapatou, an area in the north of China not often visited by tourists. We hire traditional sheepskin rafts from local people and also have a locally arranged overnight camel safari into the desert. In Yangshuo most travellers opt to explore by bicycles which are rented directly from small local businesses. During the tour we also visit numerous UNESCO sights where our entrance fees contribute towards ongoing maintenance and conservation.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
