the amazing things you'll be doing
Our short walking breaks allow you to escape from the pressures of everyday life and venture into the tranquil wilderness areas of Scotland. Choose from a variety of destinations, offering excellent walking, with an experienced and knowledgeable guide, while enjoying comfortable accommodation, excellent dining and a quiet drink by the fire before bed. What better way to relax after a day in the Scottish mountains? During the week we will ascend some of the finest mountains in Scotland, follow ancient tracks over the high passes of the area and enjoy easy days exploring the coastline, finding hidden beaches and perhaps stopping for a swim.

The Knoydart Peninsula
Winter short breaks £495 (4 days). Departs: 20 Jan & 10 Feb 2010.
Long breaks £835 (8 days). Departs: 12 Jun, 03 Jul, 24 Jul, 14 Aug 2010.
Accessible only by boat or by a long and wild mountain track, the Knoydart Peninsula is a truly special area. Flanked by the sea-lochs of Loch Nevis and Loch Hourn, the mountains rise dramatically from the clear seas below. This itinerary takes in the very best of the peninsula, ranging from delightful coastal walking to spectacular mountain ascents. On our long breaks, we use a boat to access the Peninsula and use it throughout the week to access remote routes and to enjoy a day trip to Skye, Rum or Eigg.

Outer Hebrides & Skye
Long breaks only £895 (7 days). Departs: 06 Jun, 10 Jul, 16 Aug & 11 Sep 2010.
Peaceful hills, clear blue seas and vast deserted beaches form the landscape of the Outer Hebrides. Explore this pristine archipelago on the edge of Europe and contrast it with the rugged landscape and history of the Isle of Skye in this unique island-hopping guided walking holiday.

lower carbon travel
All of our trips start and finish at or close to railway stations, as this makes it much easier for our clients to travel to the Highlands by rail. We encourage travel by train or bus in all of our joining instructions that we send to clients, and also have a section on our website which includes links to train timetables and booking services to make it easier for clients to choose to travel by rail.
travellers' tales
It was all good, getting to the top of the mountain is always good, but all the skills we learned were great fun as well. Oh, and the accommodation and food were great too.  (more)
highly commended
This tourism business was Highly Commended in our 2009 Virgin Holidays Responsible Tourism Awards - organised by responsibletravel.com in association with The Daily Telegraph, World Travel Market and Geographical Magazine, of the Royal Geographical Society.

Since 2004, the Awards has recognised individuals, companies and organisations in travel making a big commitment to the culture and economies of local communities and helping to conserve biodiversity.
how this holiday makes a difference
Despite its beauty, the Highlands and Islands is one of the least affluent regions of Scotland. By bringing the benefits of tourism to this area and using local services and produce, we help to support local businesses, create employment and contribute to the overall sustainable development of the region.

In particular, our trips to Knoydart bring valuable income to a remote and isolated community of just 60 people, helping it to grow and become more sustainable. All of our Scotland-based trips start at railway stations to encourage travel by rail to Scotland.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
