the amazing things you'll be doing
Sailing holiday in Scotland.
The dramatic combination of mountains and sea makes the West Coast and Islands of Scotland the ideal place for a holiday combining rewarding sailing with some easy walking on the many tranquil islands. For the more adventurous, a voyage to St Kilda offers the chance to visit the most remote outpost of the UK – a land of towering sea-cliffs, intriguing social history and massive sea bird colonies.

Beautiful hidden anchorages, stunning coastal and hill walking, and fine food are a feature of these trips. Novice and experienced sailors and walkers are equally welcome on these spectacular and unforgettable trips. Whether you prefer hands-on sailing or simply sitting on deck looking for dolphins and whales, these trips offer an rare opportunity to venture into some of the most pristine and remote regions of Scotland. Single travellers are very welcome to join any of these trips.

We offer holidays of varying levels of physical difficulty. We ask clients for information about their level of fitness at the time of enquiry and then recommend an adventure holiday to suit. Age is not something we generally take into account as often it does not give an accurate indication of fitness. We offer trekking holidays of varying lengths and difficulty and our rafting and wildlife holidays are not physically demanding.

Sailing and Walking – The Inner Hebrides
£825 (7 days) ex flights or train to start point. 2010: departing 8 May and 11 September.
Explore the Inner Hebrides from the comfortable yacht Corryvreckan. This 65ft yacht is ketch-rigged and steel-hulled so gives an exceptionally smooth passage between the islands you visit - which could include Mull, Jura, Staffa or the Treshnish Isles. The yacht offers comfortable accommodation on board with twin cabins, a large saloon and lots of room on deck. Days will be spent either sailing between the many possible anchorages or enjoying guided walks on land (or a combination of both!). This trip is graded 'easy' as most of the islands we visit are low-lying, so the hikes we enjoy will often be half-days, exploring the little hills, coastlines and remarkable wildlife of the islands. Back on board, our chef will tempt us with a mouth-watering array of meals, so you will be very well looked after both on land and at sea.

Clients who enjoy bird-watching will be particularly interested in the first trip which runs 9-15 May - this is a great time to view seabirds, especially puffins!

Sailing - Private Yacht Charters
£435 (2 days) ex flights or train to start point, for 6 people, 2010: 01 May - 30 Sep.
Private yacht charters are a perfect way to spend quality time with family, close friends or even business clients while experiencing some of the finest scenery in the Scottish Highlands. On a private charter, flexibility rules. There is no fixed itinerary and you can charter for anything from 2 days to 2 weeks! You can decide if you want to spend more time at sea or on land exploring the islands. Your skipper will happily suggest places which you may like to visit based on your interests - whether that is wildlife, walking or whisky! Our ketch-rigged yacht Sealgair sleeps groups of up to 6 people but let us know if you have a larger group as we also work with yachts which have 8 and 10 berths. Private charters are available on any dates between. However, this is a great time to book if you have particular dates in mind so please call us to discuss your ideas.

Island Odyssey including St Kilda
£1350 (10 days) ex flights or train to start point, 2010: 04 Aug
This is a spectacular and unforgettable journey where we spend 10 days exploring the magical islands off the West Coast of Scotland aboard a 65-year old traditional classic yacht. The landscapes and wildlife are magnificent, the history and culture fascinating - a true adventure in every sense. The trip will visit many of the islands, from the captivating mystery of Rum to the white sand beaches and contrastingly dark mountains of South Harris. The ultimate objective is the World Heritage Site of St Kilda in the Atlantic Ocean – known as the islands on the edge of the world.

lower carbon travel
All of our trips start and finish at or close to railway stations, as this makes it much easier for our clients to travel to the Highlands by rail. We encourage travel by train or bus in all of our joining instructions that we send to clients, and also have a section on our website which includes links to train timetables and booking services to make it easier for clients to choose to travel by rail.

highly commended
This tourism business was Highly Commended in our 2009 Virgin Holidays Responsible Tourism Awards - organised by responsibletravel.com in association with The Daily Telegraph, World Travel Market and Geographical Magazine, of the Royal Geographical Society.

Since 2004, the Awards has recognised individuals, companies and organisations in travel making a big commitment to the culture and economies of local communities and helping to conserve biodiversity.
how this holiday makes a difference
Despite its beauty, the Highlands and Islands is one of the least affluent regions of Scotland. By bringing the benefits of tourism to this area, using local services and sourcing local produce, we help to support local businesses, create employment and contribute to the overall sustainable development of the region. By its very nature, sailing is a very sustainable mode of travel. The start and finish points of this trip are easily accessible by rail (via the stunning West Highland Railway line) and clients are encouraged to travel by rail, meaning that no cars need be used on this environmentally friendly maritime adventure.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
